Flying Out

who you flying with?

I like flying. Even when our 747's engine caught fire half way across the atlantic. Nothing like a plane full of smoke..

Thats a neat trick as the air for the cabin is taken from the compressor. Very unusual to then get smoke in the cabin.

Ahhh Helios the greek/cypriots are trying to sue boeing because the cabin pressure warning is the same as the take off config warning.

Good luck with that :D

good luck proving that a plane crash had anything to do with Boeing

american build quality, it's the finest int he world.

Haha exactly especially when it was pilot error, you aint gonna sue boeing when the pilot has missed on the check sheet to switch pressurisation to automatic.

There is nothing quite like the 737NG for reliabilty. The best aircraft I've ever worked on in that regards. The 320 is a joke in comparison.

We're long overdue a good plane crash in the UK.

Have a nice flight.

Are you being serious?!

Is that the Greek 737 that crashed after loss of cabin pressure? V.interesting what you say about the 737NG vs A320; how come lots of airlines are binning their non NG 737s for A320/21/19s?

I actually enjoy flying especially take off but it does unnerve me a little when they do banked turns when you're quite low just before landing.

What I do like is when pilots give a running commentary on what they are doing, only had that once on a BA flight though.

Yep the greek one.

They are binning the 737 because they are a bit more fuel economical and the deal they got for the 320 was an absolute steal.

Basically if your talking of the airline I am that ordered 200 odd bus's they got them at such a low price it couldn't be turned down. They then sold them straight away, made hundreds of millions in profit and lease them back. They don't own any of the bus's.

Airbus also guaranteed the dispatch rates would be the same and offered a warranty that couldn't be turned down. Airbus wont make a penny out of those aircraft once they have been finished being screwed.

Our dispatch rate on the 737 is just about perfect. During the days on turnaround we rarely get a delay or major issue, they just work. Perfect for the role they do. I was talking to a hostie that has been with the company for 3 years and she said she has never been delayed for more than 10/15 minutes in all that time.

The 320 dispatch rate is nothing like as good. Funnily enough the only good ones in the fleet are the older ones. Airbus have actually upgraded and made the aircraft worse. Morning power up is a lottery, some operators never turn them off so as not to get power up delays.

I used to love them, now for the role I can see the NG kicks it's backside. I will be amazed if in 5 or 6 years boeing dont offer up another deal to get us to go back to the 737.

Fun? Yeah I just love sitting down in a cramped environment full of annoying people for hours upon end. :D

I think the novelty of flying wears off if you do it often enough.

That's why you need to fly first class. Did that on the way back from America, utterly awesome :D

on some of the flights i've been on there is a radio channel to listen to the pilots radio, pretty interesting it was.

It's fun because the destination is often somewhere cool, so it makes it exciting and thereby fun. And since when is first class cramped? :p

I'd never pay first class, if someone came up to you and said "I'll give you £2000 to sit in that slightly uncomfortable seat there for 4 hours, you can read and use your PSP/ipod if you want" wouldn't you say yes? ;)

Just beware if you happen to fly through clouds. Mountains have a tendency to hide in clouds!

Impressive trick!

Screwed if I know lol. Wasn't a huge billowing cloud of smoke but still. All very scary when you can only see ocean to your left and right :p
