Hi guys.. going to Anglesey in a fortnight for a bit of a camping holiday to get away from home for a week... But, we've not put much thought into it really lol.

Just wondering what people make of the place? Stuff to do? Places to go etc. If it's all quite close together also? We're stopping at a place called Bagnol Caravan Park I think, quite close to a beach anyway... sounds a nice enough place but thought I'd see what there is to do from those in the know :D

Are there any "big shops" such as Tesco etc nearby for food supplies and so on?

Cheers peeps :)

Oooo Anglesey, what brings you to that part of the world, To be fair, travel an extra twentey minutes and stay in Llandudno it's much better. Angelsey's full of farms really.

I see your staying at a caravan site, theres one in Llandudno I believe, If not look in Caernarfon thats much better than Anglesey, its got a HUGE castle, and a big tesco I believe.

But Llandudno is the best pick for North Wales, We've got two sandy beaches, two big walk-up-able mountains, about 5 minutes away from the walled town of conwy, which also has a accessable castle. We've got a brand new Asda, A big tesco a newly built multiscreen cinema if its raining, also Tin pin bowling, A long pier victorian age pier with victorian style stalls and a handful of amusement arcades. If you want to stay in a hotel, there must be at least 100 in Llandudno.

So yeah being a North Walian my self I recommend Llandudno, or Caernarfon :D

Bangor's got a big Tesco Extra. Caernarfon's is nowhere near as big. There's an Asda in Llangefni, but it's about the size of a shoebox :D

But Caernarfon still has one, but yeah LLANDUDNO!!!!! And if you do decide to come, I'll answer your "Spec me a hotel" thread :D

Llandudno sucks. Closes for the winter :p

I live in the hills near Bangor. Real men's hills, and none of these namby pamby beaches either. Rocks, we've got - not that softie sand stuff :D

Seriously though, plenty to do in Anglesey if you like the outdoors :)

Snowdonia is next door...but Anglesey is quite nice too!

The island's entire rural coastline had been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and features many sandy beaches, especially along its eastern coast between the towns of Beaumaris and Amlwch and along the western coast from Ynys Llanddwyn through Rhosneigr to the little bays around Carmel Head. The northern coastline is characterised by dramatic cliffs interspersed with small bays. The Anglesey Coastal Path is a 125-mile (200-km) path which follows nearly the entire coastline. Tourism is now the most significant economic activity on the island.

Great place to go if you are a Pagan like myself, as has already been said it is effectively (one of many) Pagan Holy Ground.

We decided against Llandudno, dunno why.. Anglesey is further afield from us (we're from Stoke-on-Trent).

My missus chose it really as she read some good reviews of the campsite, we're hoping there are less kids about and a beach nearby will be nice :) Already booked up.

Holyhead is near where we're stopping I think (? lol). Could be an interesting one nipping over to dublin, never thought of that :D

I'll try and find a virgin haha. I aint pagan though I'm afraid. Sounds a nice place from the little description above though! I just KNOW I'm gonna have loads of problems pronouncing these places!

Cheers guys, I best get googling see whats about :)

Oh an due to the lack of easily obtainable virgins the Horned God and The Goddess removed that ancient rite and replaced it with the more modern and more acceptable rite of Drink a Pint of Real Ale in the name of the Gods.

You have to go to Snowdonia, it is so close it must be done. I recommend Tryfan if you have some mountain experience otherwise go for Snowdon herself as she has a couple of easy paths and a train!

Could go to Bangor, that place is really fun.

*Note: The above statment may be a complete lie.

Ok :) I'll help you out Anglesey is pronounced Angle-Sea
Caernarfon is pronounced Car-nar-von
Llandudno is pronounced Lan-Dud-No
Hollyhead if pronounced Holly-Head

Basic North Walian dialect, Not the write spellings I know, don't want to confuse you, but you say them as they are written below :)

Bore-Da -Good Morning
P-nawn-da - Good afternoon
De-olch - Thank you
Who-Ul -Bye
He-lo -Hello
Punt - Pound
Beth -What
Ble -Where
Enw -Name
Oid -Age
Enu -Name

I'll add more as I think of ones you may need :)

Thats brill, I'm gonna have fun trying to talk welsh. I'll start listening to BBC radio wales see if I can pick some stuff up lol!

Welsh women for the win too haha

Caernarfon is OK but dead at night outside the good pubs
Llandudno is full of Chavs from Manchester and Liverpool
Bangor is dead outside term time (and apparently terrible in it)
Hollyhead is OK if you like dodgey port towns.

Anglesey is great in good weather, the beaches round Rhosniegr are outstanding, almost as good as Mora/Arisag in Scotland (See Local Hero). The north coast is bracing, if you can stand up in the wind.

If the weather is nasty or even just passable most things to do are over in Snowdonia which is OK as long as your camping site is on the south side as the only decent road is the A5/A55

See this is why we decided against the common places like Llandudno and Towyn, chavs.. I hate chavs. Wanted be away from where kids would be really, we aint that old but I like peace and quiet and living in Stoke I see plenty of the little blighters! I just asked my missus if she fances climbing some mountains and she then threatened to dump me...

I love welsh girls accents also :D Which may be of use if I do indeed go climbing! lol
