2 monitors and thinking of upgrading 8800GTX to a 4870

Guys,

I currently run 2 monitors off my 8800GTX (a 2407 & 1907).

Am wanting one of the 4870's when they are released, just wondering if I will see a reasonable performance gain.

In preparation for the change, and the fact that I totally support what they stand for i.e cost compared to nvidia

Maybe when he got the 8800GTX ati had nothing to offer :P

2900XT and 3870 were not as good as a 8800GTX :D

Yes, but he states he prefers Ati because of their cost compared to Nvidia. Even though the 3870 wasnt as good as the 8800GTX he still should have bought it due to it being less expensive and perfoming fairly well
 
Guys,

I am not paying nearly half a grand for a graphics card.

Any chance of an answer to the original Q please.

I'm sorry but we don't know when he got his 8800GTX, the 2900XT wasn't cheap nor was it as good as the 8800GTX :p

hehe well what i'm getting at is he could have got the card when the 3870s were not out.

But anyway if he has a xfire board he can always get 1 4870 and if he feels the need for more power he could get another 4870 or X2 :D

to answer your question, yes. but there are benchmarks available now, specifically ones that include the 8800gtx, that have been posted on these forums. just have a search and you'll find them quickly enough:)
