Sorry for the rant but this seems to be getting worse and worse.

why is it people feel they have the right to try and move motorcycles???
even if they are parked legally.

someone has dropped my bike before now and wandered off and it has also just happened to my brothers CBF600 SA. It was parked perfectly legally and out of the way yet someone thought they had to move it and dropped it... Which resulted in a broken mirror, broken fairing on both sides and scuffed engine bars.

Fairing is broken on both sides as they tried to pick it up by the fairing and snapped it then left the broken mirror on the seat and left so now he has a repair bill scuffed engine bars, broken fairing and mirror.

you don't do this to a car... why a bike that often weighs well over 200kg??? and which has the steering lock and disk lock on. Any how, as some of you may say I already know the risks of parking a bike and what could happen, it would just be nice to not worry about this. I'm always paranoid every time i visit a client site that I'm going to end up with more dents and scratches etc...

Disk lock pushed right up against the brake calliper could help stop this, if they tried to move the bike forward then it wouldn't budge. Could even go as far as having two on, one on either front disk with one on either side of the calliper so it can't be moved either forward or backward.

Easier and cheaper option (though not as full proof) is simply to park with it in gear. Anyone who doesn't have a bike themselves wouldn't even know which lever is the clutch to move it and I would hope anyone with a bike themselves wouldn't bother moving it..

it was on the centre stand so there was still movement, and the odds are they probably didn't see the disk lock and it suddenly stopped and they lost balance.

got cctv? get them done for attempted theft! ridiculous that they try to move ** bike! luckily it dont seem to be a thing to do around this way.

Have to say I tried to move a bike once as it was taking up rather a large parking space ,did not realise how heavy they were and could not get the stand down ,thankfully the owner turned up and was fine about it .

But you have a point, I now have a full bike licence and know better now.

A couple of people in my office ride bikes into work, and they are always moving bikes that are parked "greedily" so, without wanting to offend, although you're parked legally, are you parking greedily?

Why shouldn't it take up a parking space?

Would you try and move a Mini out of a big parking space and into a small one?

I'd go ****ing bonkers if someone tried to move my bike. It's mine. Leave it alone.

Oh right :( .

Maybe start parking on the side stand then instead if you think it will be at risk of being moved. It's stupid that you should even have to think of this kind of thing.

well in bike parking areas i agree about the greedy thing which isn't the case at the moment as there were no other bikes around.
most people wont know how to get a bike of the stand properly and just use brute force to try and move it. I asked a mate of mine to try and get mine of it's stand once while i was balancing the back... he was pushing it the wrong way for about 2 minutes... lol

It's really, really hard to get a bike off a centre stand if you don't know how.

I honestly don't know how someone could possibly think it was alright to move someone else's bike, unless it was for a bloody good reason. Only possible exception is someone who actually rides bikes and knows a) how to move them and b) to be aware to check for chains/disc locks and so on. Even then, I personally wouldn't do it unless the bike was in harm's way and I planned on moving it out of harm's way.

the other good one is people think its ok to sit on them
was up the ace a couple of months ago and when i returned to the trike there was peeps sitting on it taking pics of each other :mad:
neadless to say i cant repete what i told them to do

i would feel the same way mate, it's just not on.

how's the busa' trike going anyhow?

I seriously cannot believe some people think it's acceptable to move someone's motorcycle. I'd never think of it in a million years.

I had this happen to me...Some teenage girls taken pictures of each other sitting on my R1

there's a thread in GD that also got me thinking more about this as there's soo many posts saying "move it"
(i know it was parked by an idiot and it was a vespa of some sort but it should be moved by the council)

i have no idea if they mean it or not.
