...yeah i know im late applying but having a bit of trouble with the age-long form, and i also know that if i can't fill in this form i don't deserve to go to university...blah blah blah

Its asking me: Where will you be living during each term in the academic year 2008/2009?

Giving the options of: With Parents | Elsewhere or own home

Well its neither, I am going to be living in university accommodation?

I believe its only giving me those options because i gave my home address as where i would be living next year as I don't actually know the address of the university accommodation i will be living in as they haven't actually told me yet.

Uni accommodation is your own home.

I really think you should get the paper work, fill it in and then take it to your local authority. That way if you've made any mistakes or haven't included any information or evidence like birth certificate or passport, someone can check the forms for you straight away and get it sorted right there and then. Rather than filling it in online and making a mistake and not knowing about it for several weeks. Closing date is the 27th I think.

Your options are...

With parents ---- No.

ELSEWHERE --- Yes...

Pretty simple I thought.

Yeah but having "Elsewhere + own home" in the same category makes me think.....with parents or with a mate/your own home. Maybe its just be being pedantic about the wording...

Well anything other than your parents' home qualifies as 'elsewhere' so where's the confusion?

Oh god I still haven't done mine for next year either :(

Ok well i just chose elsewhere and they have come up with this:

First column: Maintenance Loan
Second column: Final Year Maintenance Loan - it goes down?!?

With Parents £2685 £2425
Elsewhere (or own home) £3470 £3210
London £4855 £4420
Overseas £4135 £3595

I guess i would be the second row, it doesn't seem a lot for a maintenance loan though? considering accommodation is mostly £3k+

Also why do they only give me the first and last when its a 3 year course?

That is non means tested, i.e. you will have to live off money saved up, given to you by your rich parents, or earned.

If your parents don't earn enough to give to you then you should go for means tested, where you'll get a grant/enlarged loan dependent on your household income.

Im not even sure if im going to get into uni this year, and I aint applied yet for finance, what happens if i do get in? im pritty much ****** aint i?!

Some of my mates didn't apply until way into the first term, they're still alright.

Do get it done though, they were borrowing money off people left right and center...

So that amount looks about right?

Well I'm assuming my parents earn too much to get income assessed and considering my dad is a bit of a ***** and won't tell me how much he declares then its pretty much useless.

I understand that - I won't be getting anything from my parents, and I will have a job, i have £0 savings atm, but I was under the impression that student loans covered a lot more than that.

How much is your accommodation?

Well i haven't been allocated accomodation yet, but its £3K+

Non means-tested, your financial help will be in the form of a loan for the entirety of your tuition fees and a loan to cover most of your rent.

That's it.

Aite i'm with you - £3.4K seems about right then....

Why do they state my final years (year 3) loan amount and not the year in the middle (year 2)? and why does it go down?

I didn't go out drinking hardly at all and shared all food with the missus (so was cheaper than single), the £70 a week my parents gave me was pretty much all I needed. Well kind of them to do that really, although if they didn't I would have been screwed to the wall as opposed to my friends who's parents weren't rich enough but got £1.5k grants and huge loans :\
