Age of conan - World of warcraft

PvP is way, way more skilled in WoW than in AoC.
Ouch, it really pains me to see statements like that, it shows how little people understood the game before they got bored with it. Maybe that's a design flaw of course, and the game just went for too steep a learning curve, but the pvp in aoc is very deep and needs a lot of skill. I posted this video in the other thread and none of the game's detractors commented on it - don't know whether it was because they were stunned into silence or simply didn't bother viewing it and kept trolling anyway:D
Anyway, it's a melee combat tutorial from someone who REALLY knows what they're doing, watch it and see if you still think AoC pvp takes no skill!

Why the confused smiley? I was simply stating that from my experience of both games from their respective launches that AoC was my preferred game.

Even tho people are generally slating AoC off left right and centre I would still prefer to pay for it in its bug-ridden state (because I have actually had very little exposure to these bugs) than play WoW in its apparent perfected form.

I hope that all the nay sayers and moaners do leave AoC and run back to WoW (interesting how the majority have played/do play WoW) because I am happy to sit back and let AoC develop into something special over time instead of listening to all the constant beration by others.

I've found it astonishing how there are individuals who have had bad experiences of AoC (which there will be of most games) and just cannot do enough to slate this game as much as possible.

If you don't like a game, don't play it - simple as. Why then, put so much effort into trying to persuade others from trying it because your enjoyment was null and void? The amount of people who have been put off by the hugely negative comments made by others is rather saddening. I believe the general consensus is that AoC is by no means a WoW beater (altho who actually claimed it would be?) but that it could be compared to being a diamond in the rough - with a lil care and attention, it could turn into something truly great.

AoC is by no means a perfect game, that however, has not stopped me from enjoying playing it (more than WoW) and I totally encourage anyone who is not sure if they will enjoy playing it but are at least tempted to to at least try it. If you find it's not the game for you then at least you can say you have tried it and made up your own mind.

We are all unique and have different tastes, some people will like AoC but not WoW and vice versa. You never know, there may even be some people who like both or dislike both - that's life!

I know that there are people on this forum that have had bad experiences with AoC and I sympathize, because they have not had the level of enjoyment that I have had whilst playing this game. But then on the other hand, I have not enjoyed WoW - yet you don't see me constantly berating it in the numerous WoW threads.

Live and let live I say, there is enough room in the world for AoC and WoW! Just let people make up their own mind... Besides, it won't be long before the AoC nay sayers jump aboard the Warhammer bandwagon and get medievel on their asses instead! Giving AoC a justifiable reprieve and time to carry on improving and evolving.

People should watch some pro-WoW arena videos before you start saying AoC requires more skill.

High level Arena PvP on Warcraft is another league compared to random/battleground PvP.

Thought it sounded odd. :D

The problem AOC and LotRO for that matter,, have is that whether you like it or not most MMO players play or have played WoW at some point. Thus you will get a lot of players saying AOC or whatever MMO isn't as good as WoW purely because WoW was thier first MMO.

The thing is that a lot of potential MMO players were brought into the genre by WoW. Some will stay regardless but others will find they prefer another MMO. The point being they probably wouldn't have even looked at LotRO or AOC if not for playing WoW in the first place.

I'm only pointing this out because despite how bored you are of people saying WoW is better it's still benefitted AOC by bringing MMO's into a lot of peoples scope of potential games to play.

Played WOW for ages and got bored now, so have started my journey on AOC. So far the start seems good and makes it easy to get into the game.

Wait till you leave the Tortage area (single player) after level ~20ish. The biggest disappointment for me was having to get used to the lack of speech from quest giving NPCs. Having said that tho, the depth of the quality of the storytelling soon numbed the initial shock.

And this is Blizzards best advertisment. People bringing up wows name, heck, they even offer 'in game' stuff to some players to do exactally that.

People find it hard to let go of their high lvl toons and have to get angery to justify themselves, its not just wow players (but mainly them because the game was aimed towards children) but all mmo players.
Also realise a lot of people went to wow because their friends did from games such as UO and EQ (which wow is a clone of) but now there are other viable options out there wow fan base will slowly die, until the point where they have to bring out wow2.

I resubscribed to EQ2 while waiting foe AoC to be released. I was astonished at how helpful people are on it, people were willing to put asside what they were doing to come help the poor new guy. Since there are now a few seperate starting areas and there isnt hundreds of new players starting in the same place, these high lvl helpers (who can 'mentor' down to your lvl) are a great. Infact when I went back to EQ2 I wnet to more places and completed more mission than I ever did when I played it a year or two ago. EQ2 has matured very, very well.

Wow on the other hand has not, i also started a new toon on wow a while ago, the economy is totally ****, the low lvl people are only interested in phat lootz and twinking, its not generally a nice game to play any more. I started on a RP server Earthring about 3 years ago (for a 3 month stint) Now surely rp servers have the more mature people? And for a while it did. I go there now to all kinds of crap being spammed, the server has totally died.

So as the fable goes all the EXwow'ers will leave AoC when the next wow expantion comes out. I say; I hope so!

So because a game is accessible is must be aimed at children? I'll remember to point that out to all players I know of a similar age to me(34).

And thank you Alty, I will enjoy my cookie. It was choc-chip right? ;)

But WOW was not better than UO or old school SWG. :p

Really want another MMO without levels, skill trees any day!

One problem i was starting to have with Wow was the fact that armor just made your character look like a power ranger. which is just naff

Id say the majority of people ive ever met via WoW have been 20+ and ive seen very few less than say 16. Contrary to the simple/cartoony art its not a simple game, i dont think it could be aimed at children if they tried.

Some people seem to assume the cartoonish graphics make the game appeal to a younger audience. Its just the art style of the game and it actually appeals to a very wide audience - not exclusive to, or exclusive of; young people.

That's true, to most people their first MMO is a very special experience and can never be equalled by another game, even a much better one. Even if they realise that their first MMO wasn't a patch to the one they're playing now they won't get the same feeling from it.

Yes, but I think those benefits were outbalanced by the damage done to AoC by WoW because of Funcom's developers doing raids when they were supposed to be working on Conan...:p

Yeah, I was thrown by that as well. Perhaps it was a bad decision to put VO in Tortage, gave lots of people a nasty culture shock. I mean, it was a nice touch to have it, almost made me forget I was playing an MMO, but gamers being ungrateful gits they complain about not having it outside of Tortage, rather than appreciating the fact that having it even if only for those first 20 levels was something they never got in any other MMO.
Tortage generally has the level of polish and immersion of a single-player RPG, and there was no way they could've done the whole game to the same standard without breaking the bank - MMOs are just too big, too sprawling and too expensive. To add VO to all those thousands of lines of dialogue would cost millions even if the developers got their friends and families to do it for free and recorded it on their crappy mp3 players instead of a professional studio!:D But even someone like me who realises this was a bit let down by the fact that everyone turns into a mute once you leave Tortage.

i am waiting to see the stats on the new pvp gear before reactivating my account i got to level 80 and progression just stops, hopefully AoC will have a good gear progression system.
