Age of conan - World of warcraft

I do know what you mean and I am disapointed with the state AoC is in atm but it's only 3 weeks or so out of release and Funcom are being pretty good about patching regularly. To expect a flawless game at release is just stupid and tbh is not going to happen with MMO's for a long time.

  • Poor itemisation
  • No variety in armour sets, when over 1500 sets were promised
  • Item stats do not make sense (42% Tap Mana does not equal 42%) Fixed (maybe only on some items) ie it should be 0.4% not 42%
  • A lot of stats are not currently implemented most stats do work - jut very small increments fro mwhat I can tell
  • Stat caps are fail
  • A lot of skills such as endurance and runspeed do not currently work Again they do work, but tiny effect. like 200points = 1% style.
  • Healers in the game are actually DPS/CC with a few poor HoTs, not something I was expecting
  • People can oneshot other people
  • Crafting is still bugged
  • DirectX10 is not even implemented yet
  • It took 2? weeks to come out with rulesets, and they are still vague
  • Instancing outdoor zones is absolutely ridiculous
  • Finding group players on map is silly Fixed in todays patch
  • No summoning to instance etc.Fixed in todays patch
  • Mounts are currently useless, 3G for a 20% horse that is currently buggedFixed and buffed in todays patch
  • Collision detection in cities makes it hard to move aroundFixzed\Worked Around in todays patch

guys i think u dont understand what i said in the 1st place where i said that imo WoW is targeting teenagers with no life (yes bit hars but thats my opinion of wow) now from my post that u all quote, if u dont read my 1st post, it does look like i think that about all mmo games. So do read all relevant posts b4 qouting reply to one person that found my opinion offensive and called me idiot.
I never said that becouse u play wow or any other mmo u have no life as i play mmos myself. So b4 calling anyone an idiot do read the posts from that person.

we read your posts perfectly mate, you're still an idiot.

ok prolly i should have said MMO fantasy rpg but i thought every1 would get that but u dint get 2nd part of my posts as i can see.
Imo u cant compare things that are orientated for different target groups with one having head start of several years. If u want to compare them then compare it to WoW when it 1st came out not to one thats out now.

Yes but nobody is going to do that, what it boils down to is a person choosing something to spend their X pounds on.

So you compare current product against current product. Thats the way it works with all consumer items. You compare something against its competitors as they are now, not as they were X years ago. If I see a new car released, but it has problems with its fuel consumption, I dont say...thats ok, I will buy it anyway because the car from 2 years ago had fuel consumption issues too. No..I compare the new car with the 2 year old car, and pick the one which is best for me. If the 2 year old car has fixed its fuel consumption issue, then obviously I will pick that.

Not the best analogy of course, but thats what makes market forces, you compare something to its current competitors, whether that competitor is 2 weeks old, 2 months old, 2 years old or 20 years old.

Where is the logic in comparing it to WoW as it was 4 years ago, I cannot buy WoW as it was 4 years ago, I can only buy WoW as it is now. Thus, the choice of where to spend money for a consumer goes to either product as they are now, not as they were in times past (assuming they are not a timelord of course)

My apologies, I tend to post responses as I read down the thread, so I was at the Conan isnt fantasy part when I posted :)
It's alright, I should've probaby edited my first post about it to day high fantasy instead of just fantasy.

But yeah what I meant was that it's not so easy to compare the games because they're not even the same kind of fantasy. I mean, as I went on to say, I am the type of person who would rather play LOTRO than WOW if I want to play a high fantasy MMORPG and AOC doesn't enter anywhere into that decision.

That's a pretty terrible analogy really. A car is unchangeable (yes I know, excluding modding and assuming good maintenance) so what you buy is what you will have 1 or 10 years down the line. That is not so with MMO's.

So because MMO's evolve you need to look at what they will be in 1-6 months or even more. So in 6 months once you've levelled your char and been raiding and such - will you be having more fun in game x or game y? That's how I look at it.

I can see the logic in that, myself I only have time for one MMO, so I have to look at the whole genre and pick the one MMO (regardless of its topic) that best suits me.

(which ironically enough is actually one thats not yet released)

I wanted to try AoC but the lack of an open living world, and the combat system, sound terrible. That alone is enough to put me right off; nothing to do with bugs or missing content etc.. just simply the basic game mechanic holds no appeal.

I have to say, anyone who thinks that AoC will be full of mature players because of its 18 rating and/or adult content is obviously very naive. And its not just kids who act like morons online :)

(oh yeh, bayoooo does indeed seem like an idiot.)

Well I did say it wasnt the best analogy :)

Thats your way of doing it, everyone has a different outlook, I myself look at what I have now, not what I might or might not have in 6 months time or more.

Well, im glad im not the only one thinking, what is this game about...

Been playing at weekends only due to work and to be honest i find the necro class very weak. Bit like the mage WOW, meant to be a mean hard ass killer, but cant really handle 2 or 3 of his own level V him. Tried it with barby and asasian and they can kill above their level with ease. now to be fair, at lvl 17 the ice range AOE spell is nice and really helps. Sometimes you can get 6 pets out, but as they do 10-15 damage each, at lvl 19 with 4 feat points in extra damage, you can see how little they do. worst of all, the pets dont hold agro.

i know.. wait for the update.. but isnt that was the beta was for..

Also, as daft as they may sound, i find the field of view small... i have a 24" screen and wow/eve look great, loads of room, AoC feels like ive lost 50% of my screen, god help you with a 17" screen!

One other point, the amount of running around, come on.... go to A sent to B, kill C go see D back to B sho sends you to F who sends you to A to be sent back to M for a reward of 2 hp pots... while its ok when you are new to the game, seeing new things, it soon gets boring. I know, all games are like this, but i found myself running up and down the same bloody path every 10 mins!! arrgghh!! and whats with my pets going AWOL when i change a map.... give it a rest! even MIR had that sorted....

It does however have nice points. not having to pay for your spells/combos or having to run back to town to learn then, sweet. The way if you bag is full it stores your rewards for you till you have room, able to sell from your bank bag, again nice. but, you can only delete one email at a time and it asks are you sure on each one... ok if you have 2 or 3, a nightmare if you have sold 20+ items...

The game is ok, but to me, its NW2's online with slightly better graphics, bit laggy in places [think mir disconects] but the screen seems lacking...

Give it a few months, it may well be a good game, for now, should have stayed in open beta!

Saying that, ill be on this weekend as i want lvl 20 on the necro!! lol... then i think back to WOW.

<ColiN>

the whole argument of wow has been out for (x) years just doesn't hold any ground.

your telling me that AoC devs, didn't no wow existed or even played it? either there researchers or morons or they simply chose to ignore all of the good points of wow and then implement them into their own game.

if a game is groundbreaking which wow is/was, u take notice and without calling it world of conancraft............COPY IT.

same goes for the people trying to back conan, saying yeah but thats fixed now, simple things like seeing your party on the map is basic game development skills, not bloody fixed with a patch 2 weeks after launch, as was said beta's are there for a reason.

I played wow from the start, n like every wow player was hooked etc etc.

i was really looking forward to conan, n wanted to play it till wrath of lich king came out for wow but i gave up after a week n half.

fact is every1 will compare wow and conan cause they are comparable and sadly for conan, wow smashes it to pieces 3 years or no 3 years out.

Just goes to show how it's different strokes for different folks and all that, I couldn't be happier with AoC at the minute, I'm not going to start bad mouthing WoW just because I'm happy enough to move onto something new. I enjoyed my time with WoW but it just feels a bit stale for me now.

In a way it is maybe harsh to compare AoC to WoW because it did have a remarkable launch and was quite polished from day one (Although I do remember my server having a 48 hour downtime the first few days). So if we put WoW to one side for a moment and compare AoC to other MMO's at launch then I think it is one of the best I've experienced.

I still have not experienced any game breaking bugs, or found a problem with lack of quests or items etc, maybe it's because I'm taking my time and my highest level character is only 26, A part of me can't fathom how some people have hit 80 already  they must have just rushed through everything as fast as they can. I'm quite happy to wait for more content and for the game to become even more polished, I think anyone who expects an MMO to be perfect at launch is being unreasonable (imho). But overall, I'm just happy to be playing a game with FFA PvP which is what I think has got me hooked on it.

I think there is space in the MMO world for AoC to live alongside WoW, and I'm not for one moment suggesting AoC could challenge WoW's dominance, but there is no reason why they can't both be successful.

Not in any of them guilds.

I was a Hands Of God player in MIR. was in DR on WOW though as most of the guild in HoG was from USA...

AoC is not a bad game, but i dont see anything that makes me think 'wow thats nice' as i did when world of warcraft came out. It looks like wow with a slightly updated graphics, but for me, its not enough. The main thing i hate is all the run to A and back to B over and over and the graphics just seem to fill the screen too much, i know its a odd thing to say but in wow i feel lots of open space and freedom, in AoC i feel boxed in...

But still, im only level 19, so not seen a lot of the game, hell, never teamed up with anyone yet so not seen that side either, so ill play a bit longer and see how it goes.

<ColiN>

PS - NEO, you played MIR i take it?

No, No, No

The combat in WoW is WAY more active than AoC which is why i don't like AoC :S

Well when i was attacking mobs with my 70 frost mage... i would simply spam frostbolt...

nova when they got in close,

get a bit range, and frost bolt again..

so its only a couple of keys.

nothing active about it

think the main active point about is wow is u actually move, where as in conan, u can ignore the movement keys and just press 1,2 or 3

Yup, because grinding same level mobs is 100% of the content in WoW.
