What's the difference with regards to single player mode? I've had a browse of the tinterweb and it's all a little confusing as to what is and isn't in there.

Cheers

Portable ops + is crap, Portable ops is ok.

the plus version is more MP orientated with an (imo) crap single player mode. The first one is an average game at best but i never completed it.

If you think you are playing an average type MGS game its completely differant.

I tried playing it before MGS4 because it's the only metal gear solid game I haven't beaten but it's my least favorite of the series so far.

Even being in the MGS mood I'm really struggling with it.

Same, i think its the whole mission interface and kidnapping soldiers gets a bit boring.

It was really the camera that I had trouble with. It's the MGS4 camera... which doesn't work well without a right thumbstick!

PO Isn't too bad, but yeah it should have the survival horror fixed cam instead.
Get MGA and MGA2 to prove you are a man. MGA2 you get 3d goggles and you can watch the intro movie to snake eater in 3d

Metal Gear Solid is beign released on the playstation store sometime soon i think so not all hope is lost :D

There is but its not related to the main story, some weird doll things high jack a presidential plane and call ransom, terrorists, experiments, etc. the usual. Its a fun game, turn-based but very strategic, havent tried the second one yet though.

Only PO has the story mode in it. PO+ doesn't.

Personally, I think PO is well worth it. I found the gameplay to be more engaging than MGS4. It's different enough to not just be more of the same, but it's similar enough to feel like MGS.

Portable Ops:

In depth storyline across many missions which involves you recruiting an army and playing using the traditional MGS sneaking and combat.

Portable Ops+:

Constant fighting in randomly generated missions while one musical theme constantly plays.

Really.
