Well, I have just come back early from a day out, was out canoeing when bam - I get a mouthful of oar.

Now my two front teeth have broken in half, its not as painful as I thought it would be but still hurts, managed to get an emergency appointment for this afternoon but I'm not looking forward to this...

Anyone had a similiar experience or know what they will do to fix it?

I remember a while ago my friends front teeth took a battering at rugby but cant remember what happened.

The same happened to my friend (his two front teeth was broken in half, basically) - the dentist simply fixed them back on. I'm not sure how he did it, but I couldn't tell the difference. Do you still have the shards of teeth? If not, I think you might need to replace your broken teeth completely.

When I broke 2 front teeth they filed them down to a point and put a crown on each.

Expensive and takes several days (they put a temporary cap on before the crown is made).

And eventually the crown will come off, when you'll be left with a very painful stump until you get it sorted again! Oh, and you're not supposed to bite into apples :(

I smashed my front teeth also, I had just a temporary filling on the teeth for a few years. This was because I did too many contact sports. I now have a porcelain (sp?) crown, supposed to be harder than my teeth. Nobody can tell the difference at all, except me hot and cold stuff kill me. One tooth coast me £305.

Nope, they are on the riverbed now...

Dont they only need to replace it if there root damage? Hopefully there isnt...

Crap quality but you get the idea...

How long till did it take to get fixed?

When I was in school I was walking through a crowd of peole to get to lessons and I tripped. I couldn't put my arms out in time and I fell teeth first onto a concrete path :(. Luckily my left tooth took most of the fall as the bottom half of the tooth shattered and my right front tooth was fine.
Went to the dentist and they filed it down and put a temporary filling on it takes about 10 mins - not painful at all. After a year or so it came off and they slapped another temporary one on there which is still there. If you look closely you can see where it broke but othwerise it's just like a normal tooth.

That doesn't look too bad tbh - no root is exposed (hence why no major pain) so the teeth should be able to be saved. You'll be fine :)

(Ps - My Mrs is a dentist)

Thanks the dean I hope you (and your mrs) is right!

The tooth on the left on the picture though, the break does go to the gumline though...

Oh nasty, I feel for you, a similar thing happend to me when I was 17 and mugged. I was head butted in the mouth and lost my two front teeth, had to have false ones for a while, then a bridge.

You may have to get a bridge or a cap. I wouldn't worry though as it doesn't look anywhere near as serious as some I have been shown

Well I had my temporary fillings for about 8 years. It didn't look too bad. This new crown looks amazing though, even matched the slight colour changes on the teeth next to them. One big tip though, if your dentist gives you the option of an anaesthetic that is stronger but will numb your whole face, take it. I went for the other less effective one and the dentist did a test spray on my exposed teeth, nearly jumped out the chair, scared half of the other patients with my screaming too :( Turns out that it didn't work for me and I needed the stronger anaesthetic

I just had to drink my cold orange juice through a straw and im cutting up a banana and chewing it with my tongue basically lol...

Will I get anything today to cover it up?

I snapped one of my front teeth jumping on my bed years ago, the dentist filed it down and then put a crown on it. Been there for about 7 years now. Really not looking for the day it falls out, I hate the dentist after what I had done to have it crowned. :(

Broke one of my front teeth off at the gum line a long time ago. Crashed my bike into a tree & bit the headset. The pain was like nothing I've ever felt as the whole 'live' inside of the tooth was exposed, even the air passing over it from breathing hurt.

Emergency dentist the next day. They drilled the nerves & dentine (the soft pulpy bit) out and cemented a metal post in the gap. A crown was then fitted over the post. Barely any difference between my actual teeth and the fake one.
