IDE and Sata ports on their side

Aesthetics.

A board looks better with the cables coming out the side than with them sticking straight out and bent towards the drives.

Heres a pic of my ip35 pro.. I have 3 stata leads connected (2 hdd, 1 dvd), and disconnecting either off the 2 hdds from the board would be a nightmere todo, cos there side by side, but it does look much neater.

Why are some motherboard manufactures placing Sata and IDE ports on their side. It doesn't seem particularly prudent to me, but there must be a reason right!
you will find criticisms of some mobos where large gfx cards overlap some SATA ports rendering them useless or at minimum very hard to access.
Placing the ports on the edge of the board & at 90 degrees resolves this (however, if you have a small case this may mean that they are hard up against the drive cage which can be a pain).
