I work for a firm of solicitors that defend a Insurance Company in claims against them in car accidents.

So, a case settled for £22,000 a couple of weeks ago.

Our legal Bill to the client is £6,000.

Claimant's Solicitors Bill came in today at £31,000.

Would have been cheaper to settled on day 1 for £25,000 or something and save over £30,000 in legal costs.

There is no accident management companies, we deal directly with the Claimant's Solicitor and the insurance company.

that completely depends on the case, which RL is not really telling us much about.

And I won't go into details.

What I can say is that The Judicial Board Guidelines for something like a Whiplash range from £750 to £4000 odd, injuries like back or anything long term will get more compensation. But you won't get anything more than a few hundred thousand pounds, even if you die. £22,000 is not a lot of money really.

This is an example (dunno how updated this one is)

Hmmmm, £37k in legal costs to save paying an extra £3k out? I can't imagine how that wouldn't be a waste of cash in any situation really.

Again anything we say is pure speculation because RL wanted to make things sound amazing but not give any real context.

Oh, anyone with life assurance knows that less gets paid out when you die compared to a disabling claim :p

car insurance isnt high because of cases against them - the reason why they take the cases through the court rather than paying out is because most people dont have enough money to take on an insurance company in a legal battle so the other person just gives up and then they dont need to pay out the money

for example

so far my dads legal bill for 1 of his court cases is over a quarter of a million pounds - this case has been settled yet the insurance company only like paying out 80K every 3-6 months to him so he will have to wait ages for all of his money - at least they get charged interest on it

he has another 2 cases which have costs slightly less to fight one of them is again against an insurance company and rather than them paying out they have decided to fight it in court

what they also normally do is make offers so the case gets settled out of court - the offers are normally very poor

for example my dad won the first case and was awarded over 300K plus his legal fees so in total it should be over 500K

they appealed the decision - and was supposed to take a further 2-3 years and probablu another 100k to fight so they offered us 350K in a deal to walk away from the appeal, i have no idea what the final figure was for the final payout ( a lot higher than 350K) but we settled out of court since we got so fed up of all the hassle and stress and didnt really wanna pay another 100K to fight the appeal

I wish I had such an interesting family to tell everybody about on here.

lol, hilarious - does he never learn?

dont you learn? i told you last time i dont care what you think because your just some internet man who doesnt have a life, because all you people who moan are the usual lot who dont have a clue

i was stating the fact that insurance companies always take cases to court where theire is even a small chance they may win

my dads payout of £350K would have been a lot cheaper than £500K plus their own legal fees which im guessing would have been similar to ours

so roughly £750K to fight a case worth £350K

i was gonna start a thread about my cousin taking me home after a night out clubbing/casino for my birthday and how on the way back a porsche boxster raced us and i thought the audi a3 3.2 was lacking - maybe due to the auto gearbox, but the porsche did very well to keep up on the country roads adn was gonna ask peoples views on what they thought may have been the problem - but with you lot you would be more interested about me rather than the debate in question
