What's your experience with the heat of a 4850?

Surely if the card is designed to run at higher temps, then all that is necessary is to ensure that the case cooling makes a good job of extracting the hot air as quickly, efficiently and as quietly as possible? Or am I missing something here? (probably am...)
Cheers,
Michael

Good point...odd how often products (not just pc related stuff) have 'penny pinching' components that have an adverse effect on the overall quality...I smell the hand of the 'bean counters'...you know, the people who know the price of everything but the value of nothing.

Are there any manufacturers of this card who do provide halfway decent cooling? or are they all pretty much the same?

At the moment they are all the same reference design but give it some time im sure we will see better custom coolers attched from the manufacturers

I am receiving my 4850 on Saturday will be fiiting an accelero s1 rev 1 to it without any cooling for the discussed area here will post pics etc.
I may try however to see if that long silver heatsink that comes with the s1 fits over the voltage regulator area though.

Hey guys

what about Asus ATI Radeon HD 4850 1024MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI

Where is heatsink for power section?

about new bioses. Very intresting this section

I have His 4850 and it looks like the BIOS is missing 1 (maybe more) of the
"power levels" there should be one ~160mhz and the corresponding (low) voltage, however the "lowest" "power level" is set to 500 and the not so low
voltage.

There are 2 BIOS files there 1 MSI (with correct power levels) the other one
is Powercolor with "messed" up "power levels"(like my his)

The Accelero S1 will fit the 4850's and it does a brilliant job at cooling for around £11. I have one on my 3850 and there are people on other forums that use them on 4850's and see load temps under 50deg.

Yeah, GDDR5 is supposed to use less power than GDDR3 at the same physical clock speed (I think?), and the GDDR5 is only 900MHz, or 3600MHz effective, and you can get away without ramsinks on GDDR3 cards at that speed so it makes sense.
