I know someone else has put up a similar thread, but it it worth the move? My card is the factory overclocked 8800GTS (which I bought for over £200 at the start of this year) running at 730mhz, and I always game at 1680x1050. Will new Physix enabled drivers put my card up and above a 4850?

Plan to sell mine on some online market for around £100 so it should only cost me around £30 net.

I am going to a 4870X2 (from a GTS512), was literally about to walk out of a store in London with 2 4870s yesterday but I want the X2.

Would probably wait until the 4870s settle in price, then get one and slap loads of AA on!

My concern is about the value of my card - Im pretty certain that Id be able to sell it for £100, but if I hold off any longer, it may well be worth much less. Plan is to buy something like a 4850 with minimal outlay now, then perhaps in a couple of months upgrade my mobo and run 2x4850 in crossfire. I like the fact that these cards are so miserly on power, meaning I can keep my 700w PSU

Online, secondhand ones seem to still go for over £100. Not quite sure how much they are going on the members market - havent posted enough to access it yet, despite being on here for nearly 3 years!

Well mines going to be replaced by 4870 soon'ish, 4850 is worth a punt if you can get £100.00 for your old card imo.

I have the same dilemma. Sell now for £100-£110 and get a 4850 or 4870 ( I really want a 4870 1gb) or wait for 4870 1gb and price drops but then only get £50 for my GTS - and that's all they will be worth in less than two weeks.

Can't you c/f two ATi cards of same gen anyway? I.e. the same as c/f with a 3870 and a 3850? You could, in theory (if they keep to this) buy a 4850 now and if you want to upgrade buy another 4850 or a 4870 later? Don't know if you can do this on this gen or even what the numbers would be like (i.e. mixing DDR3 and DDR5 cards together in C/F) but worth investigating perhaps?

If it is doable, you can sell high now, buy a 4850 and if that is not good enough buy a 4870 (or maybe even an x2) to go with it later without it being a total waste of money on the 4850.

When is the 4870X2 going to be available?

It was meant to be 6 weeks after the single card released but ATI brought forward both the 4850 and 4870 release so it still might be 6 weeks from the new single card release or 6 weeks from when they should have been out (3rd July plus 6 weeks) or they might bring it forward again.

Nobody knows for sure.

Well.... Ive just put my MSI 8800GTS on an online auction, and have just ordered a HD4850! I know its a risk, but Im expecting my card to get around £100, and the difference will probably only be £30. I think you are right - the GTS will come down in price bearing in mind the 9800GTX will come down to close to 4580 prices, and I dont envisage prices of the 4870 or 4850 to come any further because I doublt nVidia will match their prices.

In the next couple of months, I will either sell the 4850 (which would have sold easier than a GTS) and get a 4870 (or even a x2 version) OR change my motherboard and get another 4850.

:)

You'll do fine. Just in time I would guess. I'm swinging that way too as the 4850 will offload later for more money than a 8800GTS G92 will.
