Neighbour Noise

anyone live with you?
if so when she next hears it go around, then phone up and get them to flick the master power switch in you house. That will rule your house out 100% if you can still hear it. Then do the same with her master switch.

Nope (unfortunately :( ) ... she seems to have accepted after the test today that with my electricity off at the master switch there was no change in what she could hear so my kit isn't doing it. Turning off her switch too also had no change which means whatever is causing it can't be from an electrically powered source in the houses ... which means

nothing in either of your houses, unless there's animals (usually birds) in the eves. Or an external source nothing to do with your houses.

seriously is she married/ in a relationship? Naughty milf action when you go to check the bedroom me thinks :p

She has said that when it has been bad she has gone outside to listen and not been able to hear anything externally ...

I would still try the window method.
Simple way to rule it out, as you will be standing in a different place, especially as it affects the upstairs more.

check what it like when the wind is blowing and from what direction. i had a noise once it it was the vent of the bathroom had a bit of dirt in it so wasn't closing right, when the wind blew it sound like a low hum

also id there and eletric transformers near you, they can give off a low hum as well

My neighbour hates me, she is a fit teacher too...

me and my flatmate were playing drinking star wars game (no idea really) with whiskey...

then decided to watch shaft and i thought it was a good "bass" film so i turned my sub to the max... 4am this was

Got a angry knock at the door and we went down and i was arguing with her that its ok because its shaft.

Yeh she has every right to hate me really, lol i did apologise the next day but she wasnt really interested, when i move out in a month im going to buy some flowers and a card to say well done for putting up with us really ha, probably get slapped

ball valve?

reading your comments it is sounding like an issue with the mains water plumbing system (unlikelly to be central heating as it's off this time of year)

if she has a tank in the loft suggest she gets her ball valve changed and if it's not that then check the wc ball valves.

note - a faulty ball valve is only evident when the tank is full up and the pressure of the water lets by the valve creating the buzzing sound....... night time is when it is most evident as water is not generally being used (hence the tank is full)

good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions. Hopefully I'll get to go round soon to here it for myself and then I can try to look specifically at these areas, like the various plumbing things and opening a window etc ... I just want it sorted out ...

Thricenightly ... if it was the valve on the water tank would that be noticable as a source in the loft or is it just something which would get transmitted down the pipes?

Tefal, the house next to me is rented and she's the third set of people to move in there since I've been here. Every time theres a change i pray for someone nice to move in, milf or otherwise, but each time I'm let down :(

you sound like my worst nightmare and if i lived next to you the word shaft would likely be involved....

anyway does she have a chimney, if so they can make an awful din when its windy at night.

Could it be possible with the winds we've been having that it's strong airflow getting into the cavity wall between the 2 houses? When the wind is blowing hard we get it here too, but it's nothing major.

Do you have a motorway nearby? Perhaps it's that she can hear, I live a couple of miles away from the M62 but on quiet nights you can hear a low hum from it.
