!!!IN STOCK ATI 4870!!!

Well im sitting with the dilema that I have a NVidia 9800GTX sitting in my system and its pretty fairly clocked @ 800Mhz Core 2100 Shaders and 2400Mem so I cant see a specific MASSIVE boost unless I go for the 4870! However my mobo does XFire @ 16x/4x so I will be limited that way so im thinking my solution will have to be the 4870x2 as I think im correct in saying it splits a x16 lane into 2 8x lanes technically. I just dont really want to have to replace the mobo! However I will be in the states this summer around the Start of August so hopefully the X2 is released then.

Is there any info on how long the 4870 x2 will be? Its just that if its not shorter than the 8800GTX, then I am going to need to replace my case (don't want to), or simply have to pass up the card.

And going crossfire not really going to work for me as I don't want to upgrade motherboard shortly before a socket change.

Which would leave a single 4870 XT. And would it be worth waiting for a 1GB version, or would the 512Mb suffice (at 1680 x 1050).

Im gaming at 1680 x 1050 with a 9800GTX and its all good, the 4870 is faster than my card so it would be perfectly fine at that res :)

THe problem with the 4870 you may find is that it has a longer PCB length than the 3870 but i dont know if it is the same length as the 8800GTX, it may be! The x2 is certainly going to be longer than the 8800GTX im pretty much convinced on that.

Both the 4850 and 4870 are available from different manufactures in different flavours but can anyone tell me what power connectors they all require? I am wondering if any of these 4800 series cards are standard single 6pin PCI-E making them usable with my Hiper 580 PSU?

As an example my HIS 3850 came with an 8pin connector where the ATI version had a six pin, which caught me off guard, and the power connection requirement seems not to be mentioned in any sites?

i dont understand how though?
I think they have to underclock both GPU and MEM speeds when they build am X2 style card, probably something to do with everything being squashed together and getting extra hot!

Two separate cards run a bit cooler and most likely have faster GPU/Mem speeds.

Deffo for that reason.

It will probably require a new 3rd party cooler to get the best out of it which is why ive opted for 2 x 4850's which work out cheaper anyway.
