Hi guys, for my new system i've been thinking of waiting a while for prices to drop. Since all the new cards are coming out.

Initially i've been looking at the 8800GT, and wanted to move to NVidia since i've been with ATI for years and quite fed up with the bad drivers and support.

I've read some places that i can expect to find the 8800GT priced as low as £80 soon, which if so, i'm really looking forward to.

But my question is, which card is better value for money? And also performs better?

If the prices do drop on the 8800GT i assume the 8800GTS will also go down, in which case i might even look at them...

Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks.

4850. Unless you are trying to save every penny you can i wouldn't buy the 8800gt now (and thats what i have!!) 8800gt is a great card but 4850 is worth the extra

Yeah i am also thinking that. But i have a lot of past problems with my ATI cards. I currently have an X800 XT ( don't laugh :P ) and i have had nothing but problems with drivers and such.

Like for Call of Duty 4 i have to use old drivers because it crashes. And then for other games i need the new drivers etc!

Thanks,
Dan

thats quite an old car now though isnt it? are they still supported with new drivers?

8800 GT is only to £94 on here, but be warned, their driver support is worse than ATi's, as with Nvidia cards you have to trawl through chinese websites looking for their drivers (as they get leaked seen as they don't release any), and you have to modfiy them so they'll work on yuor card, as Nvidia only support their latest ones, which is the GT200's now.

I'm not sure actually. I'm dying for an upgrade. When i bought the X800 XT it was top of the range, and it's lasted me till now. But as all people, i now require more power :P

It's killing me having such a dated system :P But i like to spend my money wise. It doesn't grow on trees with me, i have to invest it into quality hardware :)

I remember that card! (i had the gto2 version) Anything you buy is a big upgrade, im still on 7800gt and anything is a monster upgrade (the 8 serise and above or the 3 serise from ati and up are all much more powerful from what i can see).

Probably best to go for the newist thing you can afford though :)

Haha thanks :P

To be honest, this card doesn't perform half bad now. I can run CoD4 on high and get 30-40fps, which isn't bad considering the age of this card.

If you want a laugh this is my current setup:

AMD Athlon 64 3400+
1GB DDR PC3200
2x250GB Maxtor HDD
ATI Radeon X800XT 256mb

This system has served me well, but the things i do, i just get so frustrated. I'm a software and games developer and a casual gamer so it kills me to have such a low profile PC :P
