Valve are dreadful. Go elsewhere.

Here is a recent support ticket I've sent;

For just under a year now I've had problems with Source games and Steam in general, they either crash on download, crash on verifying files or crash in game. By crash I mean either freeze up my pc or give me a nice BSOD.

I've sent numerous emails to the support staff a few months ago to which very little reply was given, I've then read and tried every piece of support on the forums and in the support pages relevant to me (no matter how tenuous) to no avail.

The things I've tried include;

- Disabling programs/services running in background
- Removing all firewalls/virus scanners/spyware scanners and any other conflicting 3rd party software (msn etc)
- Bios settings
- Fixing launch rates
- Uninstalling and Reinstalling Steam
- Deleting clientregistry.blob
- Submitting msinfo32.nfo files to the support team

I've even bought a new computer, thinking its my hardware thats the problem, replacing bits but every single bit replaced my problem still remains. After trying what I feel to be everything and absolutley everything I've come to the conclusion that the problem is not my end, its yours. I also feel I cannot put up with paying for games and not being able to play them any longer without any resolve looking anywhere near offered.

And still I've had no support, enough said.

the overwhelming majority of people have no such problems with steam or steam games. the biggest 'problem' i have are source games crashing on exit on visat 64 which is a know issue and not exactly a problem:)

Despite the weak dollar you're still (usually) cheaper buying from Jersey based stores than download sites. Apart from the occasional offer (like the Eidos pack on Steam) the download sites charge the same price as a boxed copies rrp.

The amount of people isn't the point (although it is a few, I see a lot of new threads every day on the help bit of the steam forums hoping to see a resolve on my issue) it's the bare minimum to zero support Valve offer when something does go wrong and its their fault. For example, allot of people are having the same problems and Valve are insisting its hardware specific but people post their specs and they're all completley different. Valve insisted my case was a hardware fault, I rebuilt my PC gradually piece by piece, and the error remains.

"Thanks for the money, bye now" attitude.
