3870 - 4850 AOC, Crysis, Mass Effect

At the moment i have a 3870 while it's a great card i can't play Age of conan at full gfx or Crysis on high which i play quite a bit online aswel and Mass Effect is at around 30-40 fps. Would you reccomend the 4850 for these games? I play at 1440x900 resolution with a Q6600 2.4ghz and 3 gigs of ram.

Edit: Which card do you reccomend from OC the sapphire or powercooler ?
 
4850. I've got 2 sapphire versions and they work perfectly together.:) I'd overclock that Q6600 bit to say 3.0-3.2ghz, that'll give the system a boost. "Crysis" is dog to run on any system, even a high end one, so I wouldn't expect too much improvement there, but at least you'll be able to use AA without too much of a performance hit.

I would i would but very very skint at the moment being a A level student and all , :D
When i do have the money what water cooling and Case do you reccomend ?(from OC of course) i currently have a few fans and a smallish case as i got my computer when i didn't know much about them so it was a PC ***** jobby :)
 
eh? overclocking for the most part is free?

You don't need expensive water-cooling kit to perform a modest overclock, main thing will be the motherboard being happy with running an increased FSB and the memory being capable of running up to 400MHz (800MHz-DDR).

You wont be able to overclock this with a HP BIOS. So no point attempting to install a new cpu cooler.

Also, I dont think anything can really play Age of Conan at max settings. Crysis on High should be okay on a hd4850 but not ideal. Its not really a game that the hd4850 performs that impressively in. As for Mass Effect, you see framerates hitting 60 with the hd4850.

Can you reboot the PC and get into the BIOS and see if there are any overclocking options?

If it is indeed an OEM board then maybe your out of luck but still have a look and see. . .

I can re-boot and press esc and it gets me into boot menu tryed that
also pressed f10 looked in settings and advanced settings, so it looks like i may well be out of luck.

ive had the same system before, you cannot overclock this board, id recommend you buy a gigabyte DS3L board cheapish upgrade + afp 7 u should get 3Gig on that chip
 
Tbh after all this im not guna overclock it as it looks as if it would be minimal and i know there are risks OCing so in hindsight not worth it. I've gone with a Asus 4850 from OC main website can i overclock it or will my mobo restrict it? just 1 more possibly annoying question :D...
I have a 19 inch Goodmans HD TV lying around gathering dust, it goes up to 1080i and 720p would it be better than my current 19 inch HP monitor?

There aren't really any risks when it comes to overclocking, so it's deffinately worth it. The worst that you'd experience would be your PC not booting, which is solved by simply clearing the bios.

The TV would be worse than your 19" monitor. It's lower res so you'll be much better just keeping to your current screen.

the TV's which say 1080i, i think its a total marketing lie!, 1080i means verticle res of you guessd it 1080? but the max res is like 730 or sumthing close. roughly 1370*750 or sumthing?

They just mean that they can accept a 1080i signal, but it'll be down scaled to fit the 1366x768 panel,so really there's not gonna be any difference between them, or at best, 720p would look better due it its progressive scan.
