So.....circa £200 to spend on a new gfx card...which one?

From what i can see i have two choices:-

1/ 9800 gtx

2/ ATI 4870

My research shows the latter to be the daddy of the two cards. Im going to be coming from an 8600 gt.
 
Do all the 4870s use the same cooler? are any of them any better than others? curious as im going to be ordering mine tomorrow too

They're all based on the reference design so fundamentally the same. Just get the cheapest or whichever one has the accessories you need.

BTW, anyone know what cables/dongles the Powercolor one is going to come with, specifically whether it'll include an HDMI dongle with sound capability?

I'm not sure if I agree! ;)

I would say The Radeon HD4850 is the best bang-for-buck GPU out now with the Radeon HD4870 being a premium flagship product!

For the money vs performance debate you can't beat the HD4850!

You don't get your moneys worth of extra performance with the HD4870 but the GDDR5 tech is very compelling! :o
 
ok so im picking up a 4870 tommorrow.

first time i will be going ati for 3 years......bit concerned about the reports of graphics corruption in wow.....but im looking forward to the experimentation :)
 
My 1st 4870 should arrive in 8hrs 24mins at 9am :)

So many would-be-gpu-heroes about no wonder different reports are floating the net

Seems a lot have bodged bios hacking etc and turn round and blame the card

Get it, Use it, Enjoy it, Even name it if so inclined ! :D

Just do it :)
