Best turbo for under £2500

Why do we always get loads of replies denying that lag exists, MR2 Turbo's for example (as in the post above) are laggy to the extreme!

I'm not denying that turbo lag exists but if you are in the right gear then lag is not that noticeable. Of course if you are pootling around at 30 in third gear then the lag is massive.

Im sorry but that is just not true, at any road speed at any engine speed, the lag on all revisions of MR2 Turbo is very noticable if you compare the response with that from an N/A performance car. The only turbocharged car which i have ever driven which has had near unnoticable lag is the Porsche 911 996 Twin Turbo, and that was still apparent.

If you want a turbocharged car for £2500 then go for something japanese. MR2 Turbo is the best car for the money.

Same enigne as a MR2 but with a more laggy turbo, does not look laggy or peaky to me.

Are you trying to tell me you can plot lag on a graph?

Never driven an MR2 turbo but Im really surprised to hear the standard turbo having much lag as its a reasonably small unit.

Point is that pretty much all normal turbocharged road cars are laggy, it really annoys me that whenever a thread regarding turbocharged cars is posted people constantly seem to deny it exists or tell people that it isnt noticable, because it is. We also get people posting power plots which have absolutely no relevence to the discussion. I actually like turbocharged cars, i am planning to buy another one, but to say they are not noticably laggy is misleading.

And what does this have to do with a discussion about lag?

That if you drive the car properly then the lag is minimaf, is you try to accelerate at 1500rpm then there will be lag just as if you try accelerating at 5krpm in a diesel its pretty pointless.

You have to adjust your driving style to suit the power delivery.
