350D to 40D

Dammit - i was debating whether to invest in a 40D from a 350D, but now after reading this thread i dont know if its worth investing in a good L lens or the camera. Say i get a 40D and dont think get the results i want then its down to the lens. I could return the camera....

I will be doing this upgrade in the next few weeks, the 40d is a significant upgrade over the 350d.

well i have to admit, after using the camera today i can definately say its a fantastic upgrade

The camera is abit larger but thats a bonus as it feels solid and very very well built

considering the extra technology it has built in its very easy to get used to and i would go as far to say its easier than the 350D

im keeping the 350D as a backup

Im now going to save for an aftermarket "walkabout lens" probably a sigma as i have all sigmas in my collection and also a 10 - 20 wide angle

very pleased indeedy :-)

I think mrk went from a 350d to 40d.
I went from a 10d to 40d and I am impressed!
Screen is twice as big, it really makes a huge difference. Especially live view, I can zoom into the subject and check if it's focused and how sharp it is - a bloomin' good feature if you ask me!

Read through the instruction manual, helps a lot - especially if you're moving from 350d or 10d.

yeah i have read the manual pretty much completely now, and as i said before i think its easier to use than the 350D!

ofcourse now i have this new kit the weather decides to turn crap lol

I recently went from a 350D to the 40D am impressed. The best feature of the 40D over the 350D are

Larger brighter view finder
Larger rear screen
Better build both in terms of build and ergonomics

Also the colour slightly better which may be due to the 14bit colour and the focusing seems a bit better.

My main complaint would be that my old shutter release button does not fit the 40D which is perhaps more a complaint about the canon X00D range.. I don't understand why the on/off lever has two on settings. I know the second on setting gives you more controls but why not just have one on setting. The other complaint is that I don't have full control of my flash (430EX) from the camera but have to set stuff live second curtain flash on the flashgun.

Is the 40D worth an extra £600 probably not but you can get £100 rebate of the camera (or could when i brought it) and also you should be able to get £150 to £200 for the 350D mean it will cost you about £350 which is worth it in my opinion.

I must admitt the view finder on my 400D is very small. My old Minolta X700 35mm SLR has whopping large view finder compareed to my 400D !

Reassures me that I've done the right thing - just payed for a new 40D so hopefully will arrive in a few days. Toying with it for a while, but finally read this after I'd payed and just lowers the pulse rate rise that I get whenever I press the "pay now" buttton!

Think I need to do a bit more post production fiddling to get the best, but if this camera is half as good as my 350D, I'm really, really looking forward to it. Off to the Festival of Speed in couple of weeks so should be a good test for it...

Just sneaked on the cashback bandwagon today and bought a 40D, promised myself I wouldn't too, breaking strain of a kit-kat me.

Looks enough like my old 400D for the wife not to notice...... so that was a bonus.

Feels totally different to the 400D, feels huge, well made and tool like if you know what I mean.

I'm still finding my way around it, functions are not immediately obvious moving from the 400D but first impressions are good.

Punted the 400D for more than I paid for it second hand so I am a happy bunny today. If the cashback comes through without a hitch it will be a good move all in.

lol sounds just like my ex-fiancee with bits for the PC.

"How much was that?" (Core2Duo CPU)
"£10, it's only a little bit that had broken down...!"

Looking forward to mine, haven't had any new toys in ages!!!!!!! :D:D

A 20D or 30D would be a significant step up over your 350D, and a 40D even more so. If you have the £££, then do it!

Just don't try it with big ol' beige L glass. I nearly did but sold the lens on before she noticed it! :o :D

Was easier to just get rid of her and far better for my mental health too.
