Fastest you can go for 8k?

To be honest, servicing prices aren't that bad. Its just how often they are.

These are the prices from one of the better Mitsu tuners out there.

The Mitsu main dealers aren't that bad either.

Thats nearly £800s worth of services in 22,000 miles

If thats the price of a mitsu indy, god knows what the dealer prices are like.

As I said in my original post, the services themselves are not that expensive. Its the frequency.

that was our point, that maintaining the car on a day to day basis is expensive

and if you're worried about spending a grand on insurance, then thats the least of your worries and perhaps the evo isnt for you.

Cheap/fast cars are normally cheap to buy for 1 reason - they cost a fortune to run.

If you could buy a cheap fast car that was cheap to run then the car wouldn't be that cheap as everyone would buy pushing the price up.

A BMW M5 for this price point is the most ridiculous idea I've heard all day. I've only ever seen a single ONE at this price and it was a T plate prefacelift model and the cheapest one I've seen so. So hardly likely to be a good one.

Its not a suggestion as such, its an answer to the question about the fastest (acceleration) for the money. Not a lot is likely to be faster real world.

Im assuming standard cars which arnt completely and utterly ancient.

Same difference as far as im concerned and more inconvience.

Its like going to a dealer every 12k to get 2 spark plugs changed rather than all 4 at 24k.

You could get from A to B faster in a new Fiat Panda becuase it wouldnt conk out at the side of the road after 9 years of completely and utter abuse that can be the only real reason the car is THAT cheap.

As the market falls it isnt actually THAT cheap. More and more are edging down to this kind of price level, very few at the moment but an M5 is definately doable for this budget. As you know one of my friends has a cheap M5 and its been absolutely fine, i dont think a single thing has ever gone wrong on it actually!

I would question whether someone who only has a budget of £8000 should be attempting to run one however, especially a high mileage pre facelift one liable to need engine work at any moment. I'd definately be tempted (and am tempted) to take a "punt" at one though, would be a lot of fun for relatively little money.

Its the cheapest in the entire country, infact the cheapest ever. Of course its 'that' cheap. It wont be 'that' cheap in a year or twos time, but currently an M5 at that price is 'that' cheap.

Are you referring to the one on autotrader which is actually around £7-7.5 at a guess, or the other 4-5 which id bet are all buyable for around £8000. Or are you referring to pistonheads?

There are a couple there which i'd be happy with for the money, they probably wouldnt be to your standards, but i am sure you are aware that your expectations are somewhat higher than most :)

Actually as your here matey and the thread is half highjacked anyway, you couldnt briefly detail what actually changed on the facelift could you? A mate of mine whom im working with is after an M5 and i am trying to convince him to get a facelift model.... :)

Angel Eyes, LED rear lights, new steering wheel, 16:9 widescreen nav/tv instead of 4:3, and some reliability modifications to the engine to fix massively excessive oil consumption and premature VANOS wear, amongst other things.

Bit odd to make a thread saying "How fast can I go for 8k" when you're worried about insurance and economy.

Anyway i'd reccommend, with some hint of bias:

Clio 182 - Seriously fun and an all-round quick car on UK roads... handles like dream. 35mpg day-to-day, and servicing is ok barring the belts.

Will leave you with a couple of grand change for anything that needs doing, or any servicing, it's a great day-to-day car imo.

You don't want that...

You want this one
R1 turbo engine car :D

Awesome... Apparently He's upped the boost since

"was only running low boost when this video was posted I'm running just over twice that now. its undergoing a bit of a rebuild at the moment will post some more videos in a few months."

:D

Well how much is too much on insurance. Ive been thinking scoob evo route when turn 21 and can get insurance quotes of around £1200 which i was more than happy with for the car. Guess comes down to what you say is too much as for your 8k you would have plenty of change from one of those cars to pay over a grand on insurance. Also what about an M3 Evo or an Elise S1 turbo? (tho maybe you wouldn't be happy with the Elise for everyday, but it could be worth the sacrifice) TVR has been mentioned and they are in budget but as people highlighted they are going to break and insurance on them will be over £2.5k at your age most likely.

I agree wholeheartedly that it's not cheap to run. I was merely clarifying that the cost of an individual service wasn't that expensive. Nothing more.

My car must be getting there for an everyday car? cost me a few hundred under 8k, 0-60 in 6.3 or so and 155mph, rwd and plenty of equipment :p (bmw 330i, or if you dont mind a facelft get a 330Ci and shave a couple of tenths of a second off the 0-60 and look cooler :p)
