been reading a thread on lifehacker about books that have changed peoples lives.
Is there any books or films that have changed your outlook on things, and why?

The Bible (/flame on). Made me realise that being a good person is more difficult than you might think.

Changed my life? Good God, that's a hard one. Not sure about books.

As for films.. probably Ringu. While it's not an amazing film in itself, it prompted me to check out more world cinema and some of the more extreme horror. My collection now runs into the hundreds.

The Malazan Book of the Fallen series has made me a lot more cynical yet optimistic about everything, if that's possible.

Click made me realise id spent 10years of my life on fastforward... Since then ive been active in joining groups, learning to drive, meeting new people and having much more fun. :)

There has been a few moments I think, although its a battle to think of some.

There was a scene in the movie "Apollo 13" that made me want to become an Engineer.

It was when something went wrong in the spacecraft, and a team of engineering guys down on earth got given a whole stack of crap (got dumped on a table), tubes, boxes, random stuff.

They were then told that the air filtering unit on the spacecarft had broken and they had to make a new one out of the random parts that were available to the astronauts, and come up with a set of instructions for the astronauts to assemble it.

If they couldnt do it in a certain timeframe the astronauts would die due to unclean air or something.

I thought it was pretty cool.

Im sure there are some others, but thats all I can think of right now.

Well for me it was not just books or film...
The Open University changed me...so you could say it was the books I used for the courses I took...plus the Summer schools...basically the OU taught me to think for myself by 'opening' my mind.....

1984 is so profound it made me think on a whole new level.

I don't think films are capable of affecting me in the same way, but Fight Club came close.

Reading The Lord of the Rings sixteen years ago and realising that I wanted to be a writer. I still do... :(

STAR WARS EPS 1,2 & 3 made me realise that a masterpiece can be destroyed

edit: I still remember the night I cremated all the good memories

You wouldn't be called Tim Bisley by any chance? :D

But there is hope that those prequels will fall by the wayside and be quietly forgotten.
Could you not just make 10 louder?;)

:confused::confused::confused:... These go to 11.

:D
