are these cards really so bad for the price??

ive just seen some vids on youtube of some tests a guy did.

GTX 280 vs 9800GX2

and

GTX 280 x 2 in SLI vs 2 x 9800GX2 in quad SLI

The GTX 280 is clearly the winner in all the tests he does and you see some serious increases in FPS. Also the GTX 280 stays atleast 10C below the GX2 in temps throughout.

He says the third one arrives in a week or so. will be interesting to see what he thinks of tri sli with them.

It seems pretty good value for money to me concidering the huge price tag of the GX2. and i dont remember people complaining about the price of that:confused:

Value for money?

LOL!

Edit: It's not that they are bad cards, its just that they are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overpriced, especially compared to the hd 4870.

Youtube, the ultimate source for hardware information. :p

But yeah, it's way overpriced compared to a 4870 for example.

i do agree there, the 4870 is probably the better route. but still, in comparison to the GX2 in price/performance i think its doing rather well.

Well, it's very good compared to a Voodoo II as well, but it's not competing with that either.

It competes with the 48nn's and they have a FAR lower £/fps value.

Great card that is way overpriced. That's why the 48-- series have stole the show with being very powerful and cheaper.

Best performance = GTX 280

About 70 - 80% of that performance for half the price with one single 4870.

No thought required for the majority ;).

Lemme guess, the vids came from an ozzie with the "name" of maxishine. That guy seriously needs his head looking at.

There's tri SLI figures out already if that's the info you were looking for - google it.

As soon as I seen the word youtube I knew it was that guy called maxishine, I did a UT3 gameplay video once and he commented on it saying it looks kind of jerkey and asked if I was using onboard graphics... he's a nutter no onboard graphics chip could run UT3.

Maxishines video yes? Am looking forward to his tri SLI video :P.

Yeah lol, Maxishine that's the one you'll see mentioned.

It's actually a really nice card, although get a bad one and the temps can leave a GX2 a long way behind.

Agreed, I think he has more money that sense per say. However, he does seem to know what he is doing and has the cash to back it up. Good luck to him :)

On another note, on his form, dont, whatever the hell you do dare to question the holyness that is Nvidia. :)

Maxishine knows a lot, has alo of cash, but he only has one rig? You would think he would have 2 high end rigs, one for ATi and one for NV no?
