Is it just me? Best bang for buck not 4850?

I just noticed the 8800GT's are now going for less than £100? Wouldn't that make them better bang for buck than the 4850's?

The 4850's are not considerably fast, but are currently only 75% the cost of the 4850's...

It's just you I'm afraid. The HD4850 is the better graphics card, alone or in Crossfire. Is it 20% better to make up the price differential? Oh yes.

Well, so would I, but you have to admit the GT is still well worth considering at that price.

Makes me wish I had an SLI board, or that I had kept my P5N-E way back when.

Though I would rather have an X48 board with 2 x 4850's, and would if money were no issue :(

The 8800gt is showing it's age now it cannot run grid 1680-1050 at much over 45 fps and thats a gt @ 725/1850/950 so glad i sold mine for a 4850.

Bear in mind that 8800GT-SLI is surprisingly competitive and performs around the same level as 4850-CF on average: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3341&p=20

At £50 cheaper, it certainly represents a good option for people with SLI boards, and is easily the quickest <£200 solution on the market.

Once the 9800GTX+ comes out and the 9800GTX prices drop, I think ATI could start to feel the pinch unless the cut the 4850 price a tad.

Worth considering for sub £100 option yes. I'd still tell anyone to save the extra to get the 4850 though but would tell them the 8800GT is still a good buy.

ATI's new cards give amazing performances for the money involved so cards like the 8800GT will get skipped time and time again.

yeah at 1680x1050 with 4xAA in CoD4 the 4850CF is 22% faster than 8800GT sli.

At 1920x1200 they are 28% faster

At 2560x1600 30% faster

of course that's just 1 game, the 8800GT setup does better in a few other games, but CoD4 is what matters the most to me personally :p

Obviously if someone came up to me in the street and said, you can have a free 8800GT, or a free 4850 then I'd go for the latter. But in terms of bang-for-buck, with the 4850 costing 30% more the 8800GT is certainly competitive. There comes a point though where you need to set BFB to one side however, otherwise value conscious consumers would all have been running <£50 budget setups like 7300GT / 8600GT in recent years - good "fps per quid" but not so good on the "enjoyment" front!

Its a newly released product (the 4850) I expect its price to get to US prices soon ... circa £100.

At that price it will be unbeatable.

4850 get my vote. allthough its ver close. how ever im pretty sure in about a month you will see the 4850 heading twards the £100 mark. then will deff be bang for buck value.
