So here's the story:

Got home last night after a fair few bevvies with some friends at their BBQ, had to make myself some tea and toast (as you do!). Turned the tap on and off a few times and suddenly a hissing sound and water starts pouring out from under the sink.

We live in a rented house so I knew that I wouldnt have to pay to get it fixed but what a mess!

After some drunken stumbling managed to find the mains valve out in the street so turned that off and called the 'Emergency' callout number from the tenancy which nobody answered until 10am this morning.

The plumber has finally arrived but it looks as though he's going to need to rip out a lot of the kitchen.

I need a shower :(

I don't think I stressed my anger at the 'Emergency' callout number that wasnt answered. What would have happened if I couldnt find the valve or it didnt work etc etc.

I have never ever found a letting agency that has been any good at supporting a tenant when things go wrong.

Makes me so cross!

mains shut off in the street? sure u havent turned off the whole block? ulnucky, but u should really know where to turn ** water off, and im sure u should have been told at start of contract to avoid lots of damage like this.

Shower? you could just have a bath in ** kitchen :P

hope u get it sorted quick

You're right, and in every other rental property i've been in i've checked just that every time.

Water is definately only shut off for my house, the valve is at the bottom of my drive, the same as with every other house in the street.

Plumber is busy breaking things!

My stop **** is in the street in the pavement outside, along with my water meter so I don't think it's uncommon.

EDIT: He says he's in a 'house' so by block I assume you mean terrace or something.
