Dump Valves

Some valves can sound nice, a lot are over the top though!

Interestingly a lot of Time Attack Evo's run without. Norris for example runs 2.3bar with no DV.

Having mine mapped without as I prefer the sound :o

I prefer the sound without aswell mate.

But I do know they have their benefits, and just wanted to highlight that ;)

One negative advantage of dump valves is that they released all the built up boost pressure the turbo has worked so hard to build up. So it'll take a little longer to fill up the air intake before getting back on song.

Never had a turbo car but when/if I do get one as long as it's one that can take a vent to atmos one I'm having one, for a while at least as it'll be a novelty. Would have to be one of the quieter ones though :)

Do the recirc ones make any kind of noise at all, guessing not really?

Yep, you can hear my forge dumping its air back into the intake.

the 200sx has a dump valve as standard recirculating type not vent to atmosphere. When people fit vent to atmosphere on the SX it causes them to overfuel slightly so are not recommended. Most people who incrase the boost beyond 1 Bar invest in the forge recirc as the standard one leaks above 1 bar.

I was going to say hasn't the car "allowed" for that air via the airflow meter so not using a recirc results in more fuel than required being dumped into the engine.

But as I am a NA kinda guy what would I know (my 2.5tdi Discovery doesn't count ;))

The standard dump valve on the MR2 is a re-circulating jobbie and sometimes, if I am in a grinning type of mood, I like to make it a VTA BOV by removing the re-circulating pipe and blocking it. I get a massive whoosh sound with the pipe removed but with the pipe in place it creates a much, much quieter whoosh of the air flowing through the pipe.

Some might think the sound of a VTA BOV is chavvy but meh.
