All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

Why is everyone so bothered by a couple of fags for god sake? You think thats worse than the copious amounts of alcohol undoubtedly drunk on the stag night /wedding? Sure if it was five a day or more then sure, personally not sure why it should be such a bad thing

Because players get paid NOT to, that's why. Not only that, but who's to say this is a new development. Rooney has no reason to smoke at any time. It's been noticed that his fitness at the end of the season wasn't great, nor was his finishing or even his performances.

What's he done over the summer to correct that?

1 team **** up after Champions League, a **** up with his family and friends on a boat for a week and a **** up at the wedding and stag.

Since then he's been in Vegas drinking and smoking.

For a player who was short on fitness, belief and quite honestly, ability, I'd have expected him to be really working on it over the summer, he doesn't have the benefit of the Euro's to help like the others, so he should be working hard himself, instead we've seen him doing everything but.

I just hope we haven't been mugged again, if we've spent more than @£8m on him someone needs shooting. We can't replace what Lamps added to the team with his goals but hopefully Deco will get his head sorted and give us at least 2yrs of hard work, he might go well with Ballack and he's still got a bit to offer by the looks of it but I can't stand him, wonder what JT thinks about him joining;)

Edit: Confirmed he's signed on a 2yr deal...

10m euros. Not bad
---------------------
Sky Sports News understands Chelsea have agreed a deal for Barcelona playmaker Deco.

Summer speculation has linked Deco with a move to Stamford Bridge and the arrival of manager Luiz Felipe Scolari stoked the rumours.

Former Portugal boss Scolari coached Deco, who impressed at Euro 2008, at international level and it was thought that both parties are keen for a reunion.

And Deco has now become Scolari's first signing, despite the fact that the Brazilian does not officially take over at Chelsea until Tuesday.

It is understood Deco has agreed a two-year deal in West London and he will cost Chelsea a fee in the region of 10million euros (£7.9m).

The Blues could view the 30-year-old as a possible replacement for Frank Lampard, who is being strongly linked with a move to Internazionale.

Not worried in the slightest by Chelsea signing Deco, it's just another example of them buying players for positions where they already have good quality.

What does concern me is comments from Fergie saying he only expects to sign one player. I don't think that would be enough if Ronaldo does stay, and it would clearly need a rethink if he was to go.

If we don't strengthen the squad adequetely, I think that gives Arsenal and Chelsea a huge opportunity to overtake us next year.

what i want to know is what position? i think at the minimum we need a Right Back and a striker :(
I agree, but I have a feeling we're not even looking for a RB yet (despite it being one of the obvious positions).

Given that we have Wes Brown, there's no point bringing anything less than a top quality RB in. If we did, then that would also mean it's basically the end for Neville, and I don't think Fergie is ready to do that.

I don't agree with that way of thinking, but I think that's how Utd may look at the situation. For me it's better to replace players before they make it clear through poor performances that they need replacing. Unfortunately, Utd have held on a little too long a number of times in the past.

I would hope that Foster would start as our first choice keeper next season.
I think the ideal situation would be to loan out PIG and have VDS as Fosters backup.
That way, foster gets eased into the team behind a solid defense that wont expose him and we have the extra security of knowing VDS is ready to come in if needed.
Then, the season after, VDS would perhaps retire and PIG could come back as our cover.
However, I expect VDS will once again start as our number one.
Ferguson is often too conservative with his decisions and I think he could make mistakes with this position and the continued indulgence of Saha, Neville, Scholes & Giggs.
I can see it costing us dearly.

They get paid not to drink in the same way - doesnt stop most of them

Not only that but how come Man Utd usually lose when Rooney doesnt play - No other player can say the same, not even Ronaldo!!

a lot of players we have arent playing at the Euros, OShea, Fletcher, Carrick, OH, Giggs, Scholes, Silvestre (who I read is now staying :() to name a few

I would love Rooney to score more, but just because he didnt last season didnt mean he didnt perform in other areas (quite a lot of his performances wherent up front, which you cant say the same for Tevez- whos the only other worthy comparison)

Deco is a good temporary signing for Chelsea - considering the price/length of contract - think he may have more euro games than premiership (or at least more effect in games) Think he will find the EPL a little too fast and might not have the space to really play how he is used to

Eduardo had his leg snapped in half after Rosicky got injured yet is on course to recover before him, you just couldn't make it up....

Good to see Eduardo making such a great and speedy recovery, he is really going to be a big asset for us next season.

Rooney short of ability...wow what an odd thing to say. I'd agree he is short of confidence but in the majority of games we lost he did not play. His work rate and flair is amazing, yes he missed a lot of chances but still scored 18 goals in 43 apps which is not bad for a SS played out of position all season.

I'm sorry but three years ago he was hailed as the next messiah, yeah he is not THAT good but he is still the most naturally gifted English player around (apart from Scholes) and will become a great player.

I love Rooney, I love his passion and I know that he won't **** United around like Ronaldo seems to do ever summer about whether he will go or will stay. But I agree with you on the ciggy's; he should cut them out.

We are the Champions domestically and of Europe, I don't understand why there is a need to be critical of players like Rooney.
