Hi
This is my first post so please bear with me.
About 5 weeks ago I built my PC and fitted it with 2X2GB 6400C4 Reaper HPC.
Everything was left on default and it ran fine at 6-6-6-18-2T
I did try improving the timings but gave up after no success.

Any way ive just purchased another 2X2GB kit of identical memory to take my Vista 64 up to 8GB. My problem is I can only ever get 2 sticks to boot (4GB) doesnt seem to matter which 2 and which slots they are in.

Any advise please. The only thing I have changed from default is the memory voltage to 2.2V. I have also tried MCH at 1.450 volts which made no difference

Ive also carried out the following checks :-

I tested each stick in turn in the blue slot dimm 1.
Each stick functioned and all four sticks reported as OCZ2RPR800C42G
I carried out all test with MCH still at 1.450 volts.

Now remembering that I have one pair which was purchased about 5 weeks ago and another pair I have just received I got the following results

Each of the older pair ran at 6-6-6-18 2T
Each of the newer pair runs at 5-5-5-18 2T
Strange considering these are boxed as identical components purchased using the same product code from overclockers.co.uk

The SPD timing tables for each of this pair is also different.

Now when I run the older pair together in Dimms 1 & 3 (blue ones) they run at 6-6-6-18 2T

When i run the new pair together in Dimms 1 & 3 (blue ones) they run at 5-5-5-18 2T

Other info :
The motherboard is ABIT IP35 Rev 1.0 Bios 6.00PG
When a pair of sticks in everest reports it being in 128Kbit mode.

I have also tried with tRFC at 60

Any more suggestions please ?
Any why have i been sold two different product specifications although their descriptions are identical ?

Thanks Carlo

I'm pretty sure the current OCZ kits only need 2.0-2.1v. Maybe try lowering the voltage to 2.1v.

Can all 4 sticks boot together at 667mhz and 1.8v?

Someone else who can't get 4 x 2GB of OCZ to work...

If the modules are different timing, try manually setting the timings to the slowest of the pair - 6-6-6-18 2T

Hopeless - the 8GB of OCZ that doesn't work on my P45 board I guess won't work on my Gigabyte P35 board either. I've gone off OCZ big time, will never buy it again.

Ok ive flashed the BIOS back to version 14 which is supposed to be OCZ 8GB friendly. I also tried at 667mhz at fixed settings of 6-6-6-18 2T 60tRFC 2.1V MCH 1.41V

Still no good

By the way.. Ive been doing the same thread with the OCZ tech guys. They have now given up on me. Says the board has a problem running 4 sticks :(

If there is no further ideas I would like to know which motherboard will run these sticks ?

Hmmmmm.

I was always under the impression that the PC2-6400 Reaper used the same chips as the PC2-8000 Reaper, and my own OCZ (PC2-8000 Platinum XTC) uses the same chips as it and I've no problems running 8gb of it in my IP35-Pro.

OCZ were little help to me. They said all motherboards would require a big increase in NB voltage, I would need to change various settings, and I couldn't expect to just put 8GB in and have it work. That may have been true for earlier chipsets, but things are different with the latest generation of chipset. The inability to get it to work was pretty much my fault...

I spent hours trying to get my 8GB of OCZ to work. OK it is cheap stuff,
PC2-5400C5 Dual Channel Vista Upgrade Gold Series
but I'd have expected it to work. Maybe there are some magic settings, but I could never get it to boot.

I consulted the ASUS QVL list and bought 8GB of this stuff
Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX G
DDR2-800 4-4-4-12 2.1v

Put the 8GB in, and the board booted right up !! Exactly as you would expect. Everything on auto bar the memory voltage itself. Later set the timings manually and I also have it undervolted at 2.0v currently.

I'm frankly reluctant to go near OCZ again, unless I explicitly see it on the QVL list for the motherboard. You can almost always rely on Corsair.

I also had great help from OCZ (can't praise the people enough)

Alas it never helped

Swapped mine for G-Skill 8500 and worked fine

I am running my ip35pro on 1.9v DDR and 1 notch up on NB and the other NB-related doo-dahh

changing all the ram is not the most cost effective way for me.
Changing the board would be best.

OCZ say the IP35 pro seems to be ok

Any one using these sticks sucessfully in a board ?

Saying that. Probably best to buy 4 more sticks then flog OCZ on ebay.
Looking at :

G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PQ PC2-6400C5 (2x2GB) CAS5 Dual Channel Kit (F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ)

They appear on the Abit boards approved memory

Sounds like a decent plan dogs ;)

Can't fault the G-Skill 8500 i got in 2gig flavour (running 8gig vista ultimate x64)

Hope it woeks out for you :)

Just to give you guys a follow up.

Today got 4X2G (8G total) GSkill F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ PC2-6400

Stuck it in on all default settings and it ran first time out of the box :)
At its stated settings of 5-5-5-15

nice win mate! seems to be quite a few DDR2 issues these days.

Dunno if its so many people pushing 8GB (max) out of their boards, or DDR2 manufacturers dropping their game due to ever-decreasing margins.
