Home Cinema Project for Under £1500

Bloody typical. I just got an email this morning saying the landlord is selling the flat!! What a ****ing joke!! No doubt I can find somewhere where all this kit will be set up ok but the fixed screen will probably be a bit of a nightmare!

I guess if they are selling it, it could still be a few months before we have to move out!!

Thats crap mate! I have a friend in the same situation.

I'd check to see when you have to be out. Don't want a last minute rush. My mate got 3 weeks notice :(

Well it hasn't gone on the market yet so hopefully we will get a couple of months. The whole thing of having people round to view your place though is going to be annoying.

Yeah I can imagine mate..

Hopefully you'll get a new place sorted quickly. I suppose its a good chance to get somewhere with a nice Cinema sized room :)

I got the screen, and wow, what a difference. This screen won't do it much justice, but I finally got it set up, and I got the sound working on the PS3 too. I played the BF: Bad Company demo and the first firefire was IMMENSE!!! The sound was incredible!

Anyway, some photos of the screen before I wall mount it. I have still not done any calibrating of the PJ yet.

Looks awesome mate.

Bet you are chuffed to bits :D

I feel proud of myself for pointing you in the direction of most of your stuff hehe :D

Well. I pointed at the speakers i suppose. and bigged up the hd65 :D, so let me claim a little glory!

haha

Video no longer available :(

Yeah sorry, YouTube is processing it. Didn't think anyone would be reading this yet.

Very chuffed. Excited about getting it wall mounted but I don't really know how to do it :(

Ah well. Loving the sound as well, BF:BC explosions were awesome. Cant wait to get the subwoofer going with it too :)

Here you go -
:D

For wallmounting i think i would personally get 2 or 3 hooks on the bottom for it to sit on, then 2-3 up top to hold it back

Its bigger than a picture frame so i hazard a guess thats the kinda way they are mounted :)

awsome! that onkyo will not like living in there though, they need plenty of breathing space!

Yeah I think I will switch it with the Centre speaker at some point.

I was just watching some TV on the PC and got the email about a new post :)

Nice :)

It has two metal mounting frames on the back which is what you are supposed to use for mounting. It came with all the stuff but I just need a power drill to make the holes. Not sure I should really since we are moving soon, but hey ho :)

ON a seperate note, last night was awesome, I was really happy with everything. This morning though, I am still a bit dissapointed by performace with the blinds closed during the day. It is watchable and loads better than without the screen. But it is still quite washed out.

Also, the GrayWolf screen has a very grainy surface and I am only hoping I can get over this grainyness when watching lighter scenes. I hope I will at least.

Tried watching some Over the Hedge this morning. It looked great, bit washed out due to ambient light, but my god, the sound. The speakers are definitely the best thing I have bought through all of this.

Looks very nice, bit of a bummer you have to move.

Off topic but what size is the photo you got printed and where did you get it done?

I got it from Photobox.com and I think it is A2 sized (poster size).
The white border within the frame cuts a tiny bit off the sides though so it is SLIGHTLY bigger than in the pic :)

On a separate note, I got the subwoofer working last night and we sat down to watch Ratatouille (it was late so we only watched 30 mins). Considering it was an upscaled DVD we were both VERY impressed. I am slowly getting used to the grainyness of the screen.

The sound was out of this world. The bit near the start of the film where Remy and his brother get struct by lighting, well, that made me jump BIG TIME as I forgot about it, and it sounded like our flat had been hit by lighting. IT WAS AWESOME!!

I really need to spend some time calibrating it all now. Also, considering the screen isn't mounted, it actually does a really good job. So to save the hassle of explaining two big holes in the wall to the landlord I might just leave it as is until we move.

I also played some Euro 2008 on the PS3 this morning. Very light in the room but the contrast and black levels were very impressive. Films are a little harder to see in these conditions but games are absolutely fine.

Very happy at the moment. Slightly concerned by my money situation right now though after all of this!!

HDMI from both 360 & PS3 to the receiver, then a single 10m HDMI cable from the receiver to the PJ :)

I have audio over HDMI for PS3 and an optical cable for the 360 (which I am actually yet to setup)

Thanks for that, I take it that was just for the poster print and not the frame as well?

Would love a setup like that, very nice and seems good value for the money, just as always with setups like this you really are going to annoy the neighbours :D

Yeah that was just for the print. I got the frame in Ikea for £18.99 :)
