Nvidia 280gtx tri-sli working stable

Finally after much experimentation got the thing to work stable!!. EVGA mainboard and graphics. Crysis runs at playable rates no crashes. Mass Effect still runs like a dog in the citadel. Much deliberation as to its stability and whether or not it does work. For those who are considering it does, not the easiest of builds. Im not really one that posts, usually just a reader/researcher but this was a challenge!

Fair play to you mate, if you've got the cash and that's your bag then why not.

Thanks for the info.

Out of interest fancy doing a timedemo of crysis very high and whatever your max res is?

The only person I have seen having problems getting Tri-SLI to work with GTX 280s was k|ngk|n trying to get it to work in Skulltrail.

noel

If you want to spend that amount of money it's fine by me (I just spent another £400 on a pair of Vraptors myself); but don't be surprised if you get negative feedback.

Also I would get a Auzentech X-Fi Prelude - great card and it works which is more that the creative versions do!

I can see why some are sceptical, and you have to understand (and you would if you had been around here long enough) that if someone comes on with zero post count and drops a clanger like "I've got 3 £400 video cards and guess what I got them to work" it looks a bit suspicious, especially when the same person suddenly gets a bit narked at the negative reception.

I'm certain this would be open and shut if:
a) You pass the loaf of bread test. :)
b) If you actually are posting to "help those considering it" then why not let everyone know what actually happened, why it was so hard and what you did to get it working, and what your results are?
c) TTIYWP

Ive often watched the comments with fascination as ive always used forums for info retrieval and to gain knowledge, this is a new one to me. Ive never posted before. Interesting the comments you get on offering help!.

Thats just it mate, you didn't offer any help, essentially all you have said is "I've got some expensive kit ..... and it works.... discuss" :D

System specs just in case:
3@280 gtx trisli
evga 790 motherboard
2@300gb raptors
quad 9770
Asus xonar sound card(not yet running correctly, using on board )
ddr3 reaper 4gb
vista 64 sp1 dual boot xp sp3
themaltake case
1200 ocz power plus supply
air cooled(not overclocked)

See.. more of it. :p

If you have got it, then good luck to you, but just realise that people tend to want to see pics and hear about how you built it, what you use it for etc etc. Basically MORE INFO

Come on guys a bit harsh he did offer a little bit of help confirming that it does work, it's his choice where and how to spend his money this is the graphics cards part of the forum not the financial advice section.

I guess some people just like to buy performance parts for performance prices :p, I'm pretty sure you could get a cheaper quad and have it clocked as high/higher, still if I had more money that sense I'd have a price/performance rig and then a performance rig and paying sky high prices.

fair play on getting it all stable mate, its new technology with a lot of sceptisism surrounding, so to find that someone has managed to getting it running well is good news :)

That is one hell of a machine btw !!!

I wanna see the Crysis benches too, he'll go STRAIGHT to the top of the class with that rig........or look like a right numpty if it'a outscored by a single 6800pro LOL.

Actually, if 1200quid's worth of gfx card (even if hosted on an Atari St), can't take the top spot on the top list, nvidia should start passing round the hemlock.

pictures and benchmarks would be sweet on that.

Noel as in Christmas?

You have to be Father Christmas to spend over £1200 on graphics cards.

1) He is Father Christmas, or

2) He's crazy enough to think he is Father Christmas and therefore crazy enough to buy 3 GTX280s :p

anyway the 21x 280 i ordered just arrived, all running stable. getting a silky smooth 23 fps in crysis with all setting on medium @ 1280 x 1024!!! awesome.

anyway here's a picture of proof.
