Anyone else throwing in the towel ?
I bought a nice Kona mountain bike last week.
Gonna sell the Golf TDI.
Dont have to travel far to work, so its a good way of saying bye bye beer belly and up yours Gordon Brown.
Anyone else thinking of doing the same ?

I have no other option but to drive. Even Diesel can't help me and I am not going to give up a hobby for the sake of a few pence on juice.

its great performance cars are becoming cheaper to buy.

Quoted for truth.

Leccy cars are all coming into play in 2010 with a "Test" market. They will be fashionably priced and offer a poor package at first. I say 2015 is when leccy cars will take over a larger market share and actually offer me something to move to. Until then, I am going to buy and enjoy something silly while I am young and can support it.

I will look back in 20 years and regret it if I never own something above my 1.6l and a bike. You only live once etc etc

Not really, I still jump in the car when I'm bored and just go for a drive. I worked out last week that in the last 4 week of having the Golf I've wasted about half the fuel put into it by driving with a heavy right foot and not actually having anywhere specific to go. Good times

Why do you have a TDI if you travel a short journey?

We do the usual, I cant be bothered ill take the car, plus we go to Yorkshire a few times a year to see my family.
Gonna hire a car for that.
After a few calculations we will be saving approx £1500-£1600 a year.

;)

Fair enough. Whilst I'd never give up my car, I applaud you for taking a stance and actually doing something about it rather than moaning.

Getting very tired of the endless moaning about fuel prices and those who try to organise "action" such as boycotts and protests.

So the price of fuel is rocketting - deal with it! If you can't afford it then sell the car and get a bike otherwise just suck it up and be quiet :D

is everyone on the poverty line or something?

People must really not live within their means if they can't cope with the fuel increase.

Although I only do some 3k a year I do 10 mpg in the Rangie so that makes average milage in a "normal" car and I have no intention of getting rid of her (not that I could with the current histeria).

In fact all this nonsence has even impacted TVR prices so cheers for knocking some 2k off a Cerbera for me, which I can now add to my collection of fuel guzzelers

Oh and lol at the TDi, I have just had to do an interact spreadsheet for a friend showing car running cost showing that her chosen new car of a 1.9td VW Passat (I know I know) wound need to be kept for over 3 years to even hit the same price as a 2.0 one at a feeble 5k a year in order to convincer her not to get a diesel

I did it three months ago and I am not looking back, although I bought a road bike. I am now much fitter and happier.

I am saving around £30 quid a month (and that's including the fact that I am paying £25 a month for a year to repay my bike.

And I am not on the poverty line, I am doing it more for the environment and my fitness rather than saving a few quid extra.

I'm sure there will be still lots of cars on the road even if it goes up to £2 a litre.

If it ever gets to £10 a litre I'm sure there will be noticably less cars on the road tho...

I'm sure everyone has a "breaking point" :(

Thank you for the support.
Can i borrow your car when winter comes ? :D

I'm still quite tempted by the idea of a Honda Insight, it would make my commuting fuel cost a third of what they do now. Awesome bits of engineering that just never took off like it should have to help avoid the mess we're in now with all the OEM's rushing hybrids and alternatives. Although places like Iran and there 13mpg taxi's makes the European markets look space age.

The way I look at it is that I could save over £30 a month buy not having my weekly takeaway before I even worried about fuel

Maybe my concept of money is warped
