Was looking on Xbox360achievements last night and saw they've added a sister site, ps3trophies, thought some here would be interested in that.

PS3T.org said:
The Trophy system as many of you are aware is the new gamer reward system that will be introduced in to the PS3’s system via the much anticipated 2.40 firmwire update, due for download on this coming Wednesday (July 2nd). Let’s bring you up to scratch on how the system will work.

On Wednesday you will see a “Trophy” section under the Games section of the XMB. In here it will store the data of any games you have played that have trophies and tell you what’s in the game and what you’ve unlocked.

Part of the update includes a new PSN profile screen for every user, where they can look at the last 8 trophies they unlocked. In addition, underneath that, you will see two major things.

1. The total number of trophies you have and;
2. Your level.

Your level is calculated by the number of trophies you have... That's easy... right? Well, let’s up the ante a little. The Trophies come in a number of grades; bronze, silver, gold and the mighty platinum. Obviously, the more of the higher level trophies you have, the higher your level will be. Bronze, silver and gold will be accessible within a Trophy enabled title and are graded on levels of difficulty. The platinum Trophy however works slightly different and will surely become the completionists’ drug, as it will only be awarded when a player unlocks all the Trophies in a title. The trophy breakdown can be found on the next page of your PSN profile and you can even compare your Trophies against your friends.

When we find out more, we’ll let you know. Like whether there will be a leaderboard and such, but one thing is for certain, developers have the ability to patch in Trophies to your existing PS3 titles, so your favourite PS3 games could be getting Trophies any day now !!! We look forward to Wednesday and seeing the system in action.

There's also a nifty video on there taken from the official Sony Blog if people haven't seen it here.

Are these going to be eventually standard across all PS3 games? (or at least all that are released from now on). That's the only way I see it as being worthwhile, having the feature in selected titles seems a little pointless.

The vast majority of new titles for a while now appear to have included some kind of achievement system, so perhaps they'll tally in together. I'm pretty sure it'll be part of the licensing agreement for new titles too.

Yes. It wouldn't make sense not to use them as standard. Especially with multiplatform games where developers are likely to being using similar achievements for both systems anyway.

Should be fun when I finally get a PS3 but think its a kick in the teeth for all the current PS3 owners, "HEY LOOK A NEW TROPHY SYSTEM FOR YOU LOT, but you need to play all your games again"

im still not convinced
the system should be patched by sony imo
not the developers
its only really a great idea for new users after the update
as they start from scratch

it would be interesting to see what my current game play has got me in terms of trophys
but that doesnt look likley

someone mentioned on here that they should have made it retroactive and i totally agree

i know a lot of ps3 owners lived without a scoring system and were quite happy
i just dont see why we should all have to complete our games [what about the ones we dont own anymore] again just to get a representation of what we have done

it does seem like the new firmware is going to bring all the things it promised but with restrictions

for eample - in game music [one i personally wanted for skate/burnout etc]
they are doing that which is great
but it is specific to the developers inclusion of the feature

which means older games [the ones i own] wont support it
plus i read that you cant stream from pc whilst in game
something the 360 does very well

ps3 is my prefered console still its just this all seems like its falling short of the mark

nice find btw nokkon

To be honest, non-retroactive is the only way they could have done this. I've got a 100% completion file of GT5:P on another user on my PS3, i didn't achieve that however, i simply downloaded it to get access to the F1 car. Would it be fair for me to just transfer the save and get all the trophies? Not particularly. I'm actually slightly pleased that this will force me to replay games like uncharted as i loved them and would replay it at some point anyway, this just gives me an incentive.

games for windows live achievements...

anyone?

anyone?

im really looking forward to this though this is a kick in the nuts:

Will the patch automatically allocate unlocked trophies according to your saved files or would you have to do it again?

No, Trophies aren’t retroactive.

VERY good point indeed

i forgot you can do that

i wonder if they will remove that ability otherwise the trophy system will become as farsical at the xbl gamerpoints where people mess with gamesaves etc to get 10K scores

One concern i have however is:

Can i use my original saves to obtain the trophies? For example in metal gear and uncharted i have the hardest difficulties unlocked, so all it would require is one extra playthrough to obtain everything, but if i can't use my old saves would i then need to re-unlock the hardest difficulty and then replay it AGAIN?

chances are you would be starting from scratch dude
that only going by whats been said by sony so far

i wonder whether you need to delete you game saves and actually start the game from scratch to get all the trophies as in some games, once you collect certain things they disappear forever

just an example though, im not sure what the trophy tasks are but i bet there will be collection ones

edit- LOL at the above, id be slightly peeved to say the least if have to start all over again for all my mgs4 stuff and i feel really sorry for everyone whos done games like gta4 100% and stuff like that -_-

I am officially boycotting my PS3 until the firmware update tomorrow, there's no way i'm going to continue with my utterly frustrating big-boss run in MGS4 if there's even an ounce of doubt in my mind in regards to replaying it.

Yes, almost all will.
Not sure how it will work on something like MGS4 though which works away from PSN. I'd assume Sony will now make this standard and tell all developers they have to use it.

They are also gonna be patching older games to use it and old gamesaves will NOT work, so you need to replay. Which is a good thing.

thankfully ps3 aint got much games to replay
lol
sounds good this new feature i guess
but more happy to get ingame xmb

But you do, as more and more games will be added. There are already 10 confirmed titles, then there are others being patched, so that's not true at all.
Stop talking **** or you will get suspended.
