Aftermarket Cooler For 4850

If you could be bothered you could try it with that fan, without a fan and with a unmoded fan and see the difference.

The neo vortexx looks interesting, kinda reminds me of the first arctic coolers that we all bought back in the Radeon 9800 days!

I'm not sure if the neo vortexx is better than an Arctic Accelero S1 though? will probably have to try them both and see! :o

41°C Max GPU load! Haha awsome! :D

What was the testing conditions? open testbed in freezing cold garage or normal ambient in closed case indoors etc?

Are there any waterblocks for the 4870's around yet ? I'm thinking of converting over to water for some peace and quiet when the 1gb versions come out :)

Anything gpu block which fits the 3870 fits the 4870 AFIK. No full cover waterbocks out yet AFIK

I'm tempted by the Neo Vortexx for my new 4850, but it doesn't seem to give any cooling the to VRMs, isn't that a bad thing?

Or could I just whack some aftermarket gpu ramsinks onto them?

Doesn't even get warm to touch on my card. Plus the behind the fan the case has some slits in it.

There is room to fit some ramsinks there though if you really wanted.

Azza, did you make a thread about your new card or installing the Akasa cooler?

I'm interested to see pics and stuff!

Also quick question, would it be quite straight forward to remove the stock cooler, clean away the factory putty and replace it with some premium paste?

I am mainly wanting to know if the thermalpads on the memory are re-usable i.e if I take the stock cooler on and off, on and off again will they still be in one piece?

azza if you clock the card the vrms will get quite hot. mine get scorching. I have a 92mm fan blowing over them though and they stay under about 45c according to a probe.

Ive done a review on it, but I cannt link it as its on a competitors site. ;)

Yes its that straight forward. Yeah Ive taken the termal pads off 3 times now I think and they are fine.

The card with it on, the core is at 700 at the mo' and it doesnt get hot.

Guess I just have a cool card. :)

Prolly will get hot though when you get up to 900mhz. :D

Perhaps you are right. I only had my card at the stock 1.15v for like 1 day and don't remember how it was exactly lol.
