Possibly heading over the Pennsylvania in the US within the next couple of weeks for a work trip, and was thinking of tagging some days on at the end to visit Philadelphia (briefly), and Boston.

How long should I plan to spend in Boston, it'll just be me and my Camera and a comfy pair of shoes.

I went to New York a couple of years ago, so don't fancy going back so soon and Vegas is a bit to far in the other direction.

TIA

Dan

Yep, was there over Christmas, it's a lovely City.

The Freedom trail is well worth doing and you can see most of the historical sights within a day, then spend an evening so you can go to the bars and/or catch a sports event, and a day extra if you want to go to Harvard and explore Cambridge and around there without feeling like you're rushing around.

Nice place though IMO :)

Twice. Love the place. Will definitely be visiting again in the future.

You won't be able to see everything in boston in a few days but the public transport is superb so it's easy to get around the city quickly and easily. Just buy a guide and decide what you want to see then plan that around the subway.

It's well worth visiting Faneuil Hall Marketplace (Quincy) for your lunch, got a stupid amount of options in one food market.

These a fantastic range of restaurants as well. Far too much to pick from. The Italian quarter is down Hanover Street and the side streets from that. Never had a bad meal from any of the restaurants I visited down that area.

Been about 7 times - love the place.
Aquarium and Science Museum are well worth a visit. Great shopping at Downtown Crossing, or at Copley Place/Prudential Center, or head over to Newbury Street for smaller, more exclusive shops (Newbury Comics is great for CD's/DVD's).
Best way to get a good feel of the place is to do one of the trolley bus rides - the Orange and Green ones are the best as they cover a bigger area. You can get on and off as many times as you like.

I went to Boston in September 2002. I found it really good and it's probably my second favourite holiday ever, (above San Francisco and New York but below Japan). Went there for a relaxing chill out holiday and wasn't disappointed.

Things to do; as others have said the aquarium and science museum are worth a visit as are the Quincy Market area and the Freedom Trail. Note that typically shops don't open until 10am but book shops tend to open earlier, have coffee shops and air con (which is good if its hot)

Chilling in the big park is good too.

It was very hot and humid when I went at the end of September.

I'd go back again, (just for the seafood if nothing else ;))

Loads of family there, so I go once or twice a year. I've never really done the touristy thing, but the aquarium is awesome and going up the John Hancock building is worthwhile. Taking a couple days to head down to Cape Cod is well worth it too; best place in the world :)

Oh, and eat lots of lobster!

I went there in 2002 and my favourite bit was the duck tour, I got to pilot the boat :D

been to Boston 3 times and loved it! don't bother with all the crappy tours, hit the 'middle east' and enjoy the music and bar life, great place to start any american trip, and much better to fly into there from england before hitting the dizzy heights of NYC loved it, Cambridge is a cool area!

Spent 3 and a bit months there couple of summers ago. I've been to LA and San Francisco but Boston was much better. I will def be going back. Just feels very safe, loads of interesting buildings, good shops and night life.

i quite little italy as well, and your right BigChez it's very safe and clean. quite pricey for America i found the youth hostel to be the very hi compared to even NY, but all depends where you go i guess
