My Launchday 360 Has Half Bitten The Dust!

Its a sad day, my 360 (manufactured on the 29th of Nov 2005) has stopped working properly.

This is not a 3 red rings of light situation. I was playing Battlefield Bad Company, brought in a mortar strike right in front of me, when the screen flickered and it decided there would be no picture.. but the sound remained.

So i turned off the console and put it back on, back into battlefield, back to playing and boom 2 minutes later its done it again. So i give it a 5 minute rest before going back in with a bit of Fight Night but it doesnt even make it to the game and now.. now I cant get a picture out of it at all.. just sound through my optical cable.

Ive tested it on component, composite, scart and VGA, over 2 televisions, one HD, the other CRT.

All the same symptoms, sound but no picture, but still no RROD.

So, what are my options?! The console appears to be working, but ultimately I cant see it :(

This would be a much easier situation if it properly RROD'd!

By the way, I bought this from the high-street, January/February 2006 and I still have the receipt, 2 and a bit years later! :D

Yeah, try your best to get it to RROD and you can get it fixed, if not you need to get a new one. :(

Any way you can force it to overheat and give you 3 RROD?

Perhaps you can get a replacement then?

Could try the towel trick I suppose, but thats a last resort really.. but I suppose my testing has ruled out any cable issues.. it does seem like the visual output of my 360 is just fubar'd.

If i get some red rings am i eligible to walk into the highstreet armed with my receipt and sales of goods act?

Quite a common fault and sadly isnt covered by the extended warranty. If you don't want to make it red ring, you can fix it yourself (as I did when I had the same fault, is cheap and fairly easy to do) by googling for "X-Clamp Fix".

depends where you got it from

a local video game shop in my area takes back rrod and visual fault xboxes with reciepts no matter their age

I would like to think of it as MS fault for selling a poor design console.

To the OP, go ahead and force it to RROD
You could apply this kind of broken logic to anything that happens in life and any law that is broken. Fail.

Thats fraud.
The mods condone fraud in this sub-forum. Discussion like this has been going on for a long time. It is common place for people to have non RROD 360's and ask for advice on here how to defraud Microsoft.

Thats fraud.

Big deal, Microsoft should be refunding everything with their craptacular console.

Also I've tried overheating one, it wouldn't break, I wrapped my old 360 up in loads of towels and left PGR4 on for 30 mins, it shut itself off for a few mins them came back on and did the same, but wouldn't die.

Why? As far as I can tell I have been sold faulty goods, albeit its taken 2.5 years for it to go wrong. I dont really know if thats a reasonable length for a console to last..

Hehe, damn ********!

Well, I was thinking of a switch to the darkside now we are getting DS3s and FW2.4 with MGS4.

Come on don't be naive. After reading this forum and stories for broken 360's for 2.5 years, you think you can walk into a shop and return something that is broken outside of the warranty period/conditions claiming it is Microsoft's fault?

If you feel that strongly about it jump on a soapbox or raise a claim through the small claims court, Realistically you know after 2.5 years you don't have a leg to stand on, just be a man about it Towel trick your machine and get MS to replace it ;)

Your so blunt it hurts! But you are right, it wasn't naivety though, it was optimism..

I think I will have to research these x-clamp and towel tricks. Whats the best order? Towel trick and then x-clamp? Or is x-clamping a bit extreme as it involves taking it all to bits?

You are the one who fail. When did i said about applying the same logic to everything else?
I re-read my post, and I conclude, that you are still the one who fails. Sorry, that's just the way it is.

Sadly I have no idea, my 2006 360 is still going strong. I would definitely youtube just in case. I seldom open my electronics etc up (my ps3 and 360 are still in pristine unopened condition apart from ps3 hdd upgrade).

In all honesty I would not spend too much time trying to break it. If you can't do it easily just give up, sell it as broken and for about 100 ish (I am guessing) buy yourself a 2nd hand 360 core/arcade. Or if you are feeling really flush buy a ps3, but then you are left with loads of accessories and games for your 360 to flog, which is hassle.

Easy tiger, rp2000 has to have special considerations after years of emotional damage from losing to students over XBL. :p

Ive added you to msn for a chat, hope you dont mind.

Unlucky dude :( my 360 died a couple of months ago and that was an actual launch day (not january or febuary :p). I couldn't be bothered with the hassle though and just brought a new one!
