Aftermarket Cooler For 4850

whats the difference betwen the 2 and are they easy to fit
Arctic Cooling Accelero S2 VGA Cooler
Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 Rev. 2 VGA Cooler

cheers

Im really tempted to get a Vortexx Neo for my 4850, but I would really appreciate some advice on how to cool the VRMs as from the pics it looks like there is no heatsink on them :)

And one more thing.... does the fan on the Vortexx connect to the card itself, and therefore gets speed controlled?

unless you raise the voltage i think they are fine uncooled. but some ramsinks should fit on them. (I'm using ramsinks on mine but the gpu is watercooled)

Where the HD4870 used extremely robust Pulse and Vitec inductors for voltage regulation, the HD4850 needs a bit more mundane components considering the core and memory run at much lower speeds. To this end it is equipped with a quartet of larger inductors each of which is paired up with a set of smaller VRMs. Due to their small size in relation to the heat they produce, it is strongly recommended that you cover all of these components with heatsinks if you are going the aftermarket cooling route

Can anyone assist with a newbish question? Will a X1900 style cooler fit on a 4850? I have a GX700 cooler which comes with about 7 or 8 ram heat sinks, but I am not sure if it would fit a 4850.

Yes that cooler will fit.

they have the same mounting holes so it will fit for sure ;)

edit: beaten by gurusan :(

Thanks guys, the inductors and VRMs in Big Waynes post do look like a bit of a pain to sort out, might stick with stock just for now or take the plunge and fashion something for them. If anyone has bothered reapplying AS to the stock cooler and noticed improvements it would be interesting to know. I think I read someone on here was planning to do it.

Was shown already in this thread, did you miss it?

:o < - - Clicky

In that test idle stayed the same but load was reduced 3°C

Although others have shown up to 15c improvement. I guess it varies how good or bad the gunk they put on is.

What's the best cooling for crossfire 4850s?

I was wondering if you could fit a Thermalright HR-03 on each of the cards?
Something that doesn't block crossfire link and something that is quiet, I doubt you could get 2x HR-03's in due to the sheer size of the heatsink.
