Makes you wonder what the sales numbers are like the GTX260 doesn't it. My guess is the real hardcore enthusiasts will go for the GTX280 (which has unrivaled performance) no matter the cost. The GTX260 is a lot cheaper but then the 4870 is a strong competitor costing a lot less again.
My guess is that Nvidia hoped that by pricing the GTX260 in between the 9800GX2 and the 3870x2 they would drum up some business around the £250 mark, but the 4870 has rather spoiled the party with it's much more aggressive pricing (£180).
The biggest shame is that NV couldn't tweak just a bit of extra performance out of the GTX260, then I might have been interested at £235. Alternatively maybe they should have gone for 768meg RAM to cut costs a bit.
