I recently posted a thread about my GPU running very hot, and very load. Because of this I have started looking in to the possibility of fitting an after market cooler. After reading countless reviews, posts etc. I have my eye on an Accelero S1:

However, I am slightly confused - Without overclocking the GPU, which I don't intend to do, will this be enough to cool the card under heavy game loads? Or will I need additional fans etc?

im using this on a 9600GT and it does help as long as you have good airflow. Tried the turbo module but it was a PITA to fit.

In short yes it will help if you have good airflow

I'd still fit a fan onto a S1, even one at 600rpm will help reduce temps by double figures compared to passive. Got 12cm fan Accelero S1 on my 8800GT

Don't waste your time with a 4cm fan, you can fit a 8cm and 12cm easily. Quieter with more air flow. I've got one 12cm, might have two but not sure. Plugged into molex.

Ah ok, cheers - I assumed smaller = quieter. Also, are the stock RAM heatsinks that come with the S1 good enough, or do I need to buy others?

Thanks guys.

u want to get a 120mm fan will be quiter and provide more airflow either Scythe or Nocuta if you want silience the Sharkoon Silent Eagle 1000 and Yateloons are worth looking at as well

Quite the opposite in fact. Smaller=fast and noisy. Bigger=slower and quieter.

Small fans tend to try to make up for their lack of airflow by running at stupid speeds, usually around 4500-5500rpm.
