The missus has been sat with a catalogue looking at new curtains for the bedroom.. "But the existing ones are only five months old" I say to no avail.

Given the choice of Caramel, Mocha or Chocolate ones in either faux suede or cloth-lined ones.. she may as well be speaking a foreign language and gets the hump when I ask what the difference is between Caramel and Mocha.

Do I have a valid opinion on Mocha Faux Swede vs Chocolate cloth-lined? Nope.

Should I care more? Curtains are curtains to me, especially at £££ a pop.. is it just a female thing?

Red is a colour. Brown is a colour. Chocolate is a food. Caramel is a food. Mocha is a drink.

Surely Caramel curtains will melt on the carpet?

If it was a choice between Fuschia, Puce and Chocolate, then I'd have an opinion, especially if there was a margin in cost.

Otherwise, meh.

I used to struggle to feign any interest in soft furnishings so now I just pick one of the options and make up a reason why I like it.

Keeps her happy.

Depends if you work night shifts or not, If so darker and heavy the better.

Otherwise a curtains a curtain. Oh and never get blinds in you room. When you have your windows open and the winds blowing they clatter about and are soooo annoying.

Philistine! :D

Whether you should care or not is a moot point, though. Just agree with her, as suggested. :p

Go all alpha on her! Demand you get man curtains with pictures of cars on them!

Failing that, or when you've picked yourself up, suggest some full length lined Bottle-Green (or Jade Green for the lighter option) velvet curtains.

Tell her you like all 3 and the final decision is up to her (makes you seem like you care and you're giving her the say).

Curtains. Devices to keep the light out. Should be in good nick and at least vaguely coordinated with the room.

Caring more than this (as a male) is gay. Just nod your head at the woman and make non-committal comments.

If you want a say in the decision, which i assure that you do not. You need to say something in the line of:-

"I think the Caramel/mocha/choclate doesn't match our decor as that shade is too light/dark for our wall colour and it doesn't have much contrast well against the flood/carpet which will give a very washed/over powering out feel"

Take your pick from those words, then follow it up with.

"I think the Caramel/chocolate/mocha would suit it better, only if we get a new 50" plasma TV next to it, it will really bring out the curtains"

:p

WTF are you doing letting her replace the current ones if they are only five months old??? That is a slippery slope to be going down...

No you shouldn't care about something boring and mundane like curtains, who in all honesty gives a **** if they look nice.
I bought mine from rosebys or somewhere, saw them up close, yeah i'll have them. Thats only my bedroom, the rest of the house has blinds. And has done for the few years i've owned it, it's always looked how I made it when i first bought it, can't be bothered to care.

When I decorated I just decided what colours and whatnot I wanted where, went down the shops and within about half an hour i'd be fitting the floor, painting, wallpapering, putting doors up whatever.
The only thing inh my decor i took time over was what I hung on my walls, because it's a pain in the hole to find good pop art and music stuff for the walls.

In short, tell her the current curtains are fine. Why are you looking for more?

My curtains haven't been changed in nigh on 20 years now. I bought them 2 decades ago from Uptons in the sale, about 15 quid they were. They are still fit for purpose to this very day.

Tell her that until the cat gets at them, they've burned down in a fire or someone has accidentally spilt Nitro Mors over them then they're staying put!
