But as Jez says, your going to struggle to find anything as good for the money. the evo / scoob excel in this area for this very reason.

As has been said, other than an Evo, what else is for him to move to? That is why Imprezas are so popular, they do it all very very well and at a great price. Anything for 12k that isn't a 2 door is going to be slower and handle worse, so if he seriously wants to change, there has to be some compromise.

Please don't kid, the mondeo is fine but i doubt it is as much fun as the alpha which has better power to weight and actually looks nice

I would seriously consider the Monaro, RWD fun and a huge V8...

Apart from that, a Scooby seems to be the only car to fulfill the criteria.

Tuned Supra? Would that not be as hot property as an STi ? Also I don't know how they fair on corners?

E36 M3, now I do like them, a lot in fact if done right. Just me in a BMW... hmmmm.

My WRX wasn't heavily modified, just full decat and lightweight flywheel. Took it down the pod and got 13.2 a few times, so it was kinda quick.
