I dont post in here much, but i got my hands on my new screen today (For freeeee), and wanted to tell you lot :D

Its a JVC 42 inch plasma. It was due to replace the screen in my lounge, but the problem is, i didnt have a decent mount for it to go on my existing TV stand, and getting it all plumbed in neatly was going to be difficult.

Naturally, i decided the next best place for it was in my bedroom. Initially i did this for a bit of a joke, but it's actually pretty darn nice!! Its vertainly a bit nicer than the 17inch CRT that was in here before!!

Thar she blows :D

i am planning to use a 32" samsung 1080p HDTV as a primary monitor for my pc. you think is a good idea? it looks very good though!

lol the resolution's a little on the big side. Seriously though IMHO 30" is the biggest a single PC monitor should ever be (multi monitor is ok bigger because you then keep completely separate things running on the other monitor (such as Outlook))

OMG, no offence but that looks shocking. As a TV i'm sure it's fine but as a monitor it looks really terrible. Why on earth anyone would want a 42" TV as a monitor I don't know, way OTT. I think i would have preferred you're old 17" CRT

I’ve got my plasma linked to my laptop via HDMI at 1,920x1,080 and it looks cracking! Although having it set at 1366x768 seems better suited to this set. Set up the JVC properly mate and you should get a very good picture :D

hi guys, after recently purchashing a 36inch 1080p Toshiba Regza, and running my pc through it via a DVI-D to HDMI cable, from my 8800gtx at 1920x1080 the quality is amazing. Response time is suprisingly fast too, it feels as fast as my Dell Ultrasharp 20.1 widescreen.

Please excuse the sizes and bad quality :( And the image of the movie is HD incredible hulk through the pc :)

I set up my samsung 1080p 32" yesterday. i used a dvi to hdmi cable and the results were horrible. either the cable was faulty or its just meant to look like that. i spent the whole night tweaking the colors and cursing at myself for buying a hdtv to replace my monitor. everything was a mess. in the morning i thought i should give it a try and set up the HDTV with a vga cable and i was blown away. what a relief... everything looks absolutely perfect, it even blows away my samsung 22" monitor in terms of colors and contrast. so for those who think of using a hdtv as a monitor, i say go for it as long as the hdtv is 1080p.

./agree, the only downfalls are a slightly higher response time (however mind seems excellend) and a small amount of ghosting on cheaper sets.

wow!!
Thread resurgence!!

I am currently running off an Nforce 2 mobo, with the built in mx440 gfx, so i dont think it has much scope for fiddling with the res! I tried with Powerstrip, and the Nvidea utility and it would let me set them up, but refused to run them.

So i figure i need to find a cheap AGP card to run it. I dont really play games, except a few oldies every now and again (completed homeworld again last night on this screen, love that game), and i mainly use the screen in my room for movies/TV and other video, which it displays VERY well.

I will be using one of the three free 19inch lcd screens i also go to run as the second screen to display my web-browser, which looks a bit squished on the big un!

For a laugh I took my PC downstairs and hooked it upto the 42" plasma a few days ago. The aspect ratio is a little strange due to using wrong resolution, and I have been too lazy to change it so far lol. Crysis looks amazing, and I actually have been enjoying running through causing much mayhem on a 2nd play through. Bizarrely I am actually playing much better on this screen that on my usual 19" lcd.

It is hooked up through the VGA port though at present as the HDMI cable I have for my Viera is too short.
