I got stopped by a traffic cop yesterday for driving too slow, ok that may sound funny but on the road in question i believe the speed i was travelling was more than adequate. The road in question is a duel carriage way around 300mtrs long and has a roundabout at both ends. It has a national speed limit sign on it. I was travelling at 40mph when i got stopped and told i was going too slow and i should be driving at the speed limit allowed. Ok i thought perhaps i was going too slow i'll drive faster tomorrow. Tomorrow comes and i did drive faster (now i dont have the fastest car in the world - 1.3 hyundai accent) and i kind of floored it as i came off the first roundabout and i hit a staggering speed of 55mph (as did about half a dozen of my work collegues) before i had to brake to go around the second roundabout............now to me it seems safer and more reasonable to accelerate to 40mph and drive at a steady speed than to drive as fast as i can before i have to brake for the roundabout. I wont be changing my driving habit on that road as i dont see the point as i was only going faster than 40mph for something stupid like 10sec. I honestly think the policeman had nothing better to do. Dont get me wrong he was polite about it but really what was the point other than i was holding him up in his traffic car which is probably quite capable of reaching 60mph on that road for all of 10secs.

I hate people who drive like you :D

You potentially hold up cars wishing to do 60mph though which means they then try to overtake you which then potentially causes accidents.

I cannot stand, nigh detest idiots who are incapable of doing 60 in a 60 limit or close to. The ammount of people I follow to work doing 35/40 in a 60 is ridiculous, if you can't do 60 don't drive the road grrr.

Rant over.

I don't see the problem seeing as it is a dual carriageway. I drive on one every day and you're lucky to do 60mph thanks to all the right lane 40mph drivers, including offers of the law for that matter too. No reason to hog the right lane but they do anyway, but that's another issue for another day :p

Just drive within your limits and keep decent lane discipline. It's all about making progress safely. You by no means need to floor it and hit 70mph and then level it off. I would go with the flow, accelerating as fast as I see safe within the limit then back down the gears for the roundabout then repeat, rather than keep a constant speed.

There is an nsl by my home here which can't be more than 200m. It is mostly pointless however I do cane it and get to 60 easily before I have to slow down. My car is fairly sprightly though and I can see your point in a 1.3.

Well thats just my point, there is no way i could reach 70mph, i could reach 60mph but id be going through and over the roundabout at that point. To hit 55mph i have to floor it and by that time im braking for the roundabout. I just dont see the point of driving like that. I have to go around the second roundabout and effectively come back on myself for a further 150mtrs so again whats the point of flooring it to reach 55mph to have to brake and change lanes.

I may be a bit off with the distacne but i floor it off the first roundabout and keep accellerating untill i hit 55mph then im braking quite hard for the second roundabout

ARE YOU CRAZY MAN???
its an NSL road! its your god given right to push that accelerator pedal to the floor and ring the neck off the car until you hit the speed limit:p

but seriously, if you feel comfortable cruising up to 40 and taking it easy then fair do, it makes sense, its a dual carrigeway if anyone feels the need to go faster they can always overtake.

NSL road...... plodding along at 35mph.

oooooooooohhhhhhh 30mph limit in lit up town...... 40mph!

sigh.

HOWEVER, the OP does have a point about the distances, sure the copper in his 150+ BHP car can get to 60 fast, but not everyone can afford faster cars, and when your gona stop again in 0.26 miles whats the point?

the a27 along the south coast has a big section like that

DC, roundabout, DC, roundabout, DC etc.. etc..

i like to make progress and have a fairly quick car, but even i can't be bothered to get to the limit

When you were pulled over were you in the outside lane doing 40?
If so you should either
-Be in the inside lane
-Or doing 60, well atleast overtaking other traffic.

If you holding traffic up in the outside lane then you should be pulled over as your not using the lanes correctly as in the highway code.

I enter the first roundabout from a motorway slip road, the roundabout has 3 lanes and two of them take you onto the road in question. Ok i was guilty of being in the outside lane but given the length of the road 0.27miles i have to move into that lane at some point to go around the roundabout at the other end. Given the fact that most of the cars using the road do the same thing then whats wrong with it - he only collared me as i was holding him up. So really the outside lane on this little stretch of road is for people who want to screw their cars and go as fast as they can. Like ive said unless you have a super fast car you will only reach 60mph max (and that would be foot to floor thru all you gears) before you have to start braking for the roundabout.

It's 300 metres long. He could have been turning right at the roundabout at the end.

The copper must have been bored. There are loads of people (I got stuck behind two testerday) who insist on doing 30 in a NSL area never mind 40! What really annoys me is when people slow down to 30 for a speed camera on a NSL road. I think they should be set to go off at over 60 or below 35 depending on conditions of course.
