National Speed Limit

I hate people like this, i wish to see more 'speed police' on the road, if i got into power these would be pro speed and anti slowness.

how bloomin tight is the roundabout that you can't take it at 50-60mph anyway? Most dual carriageway roundabouts are large enough to be attacked at practically that speed

but not very safe to do so really? id hazzard a guess you could probably go around some at over 80mph and maybe as much as 100. but if you dont know whats there you have to act with alittle caution... who knows, someone else with the same idea as you might be coming the other way..... :(

If you see a car to your right on the roundabout and you're doing 60mph, what chance have you got of stopping in time? Don't forget this guy is in a Hyundai, the thing will put itself in a ditch at anything faster than 30mph.

The distance that the OP was travelling was 300 meters, i'm not good on maths but i'm sure you'd have to push a hyundai pretty hard to get it up to 60 and slow down is reasonable time for the roundabout at that distance.

Yet again the police seem more concerned about speed rather than driving safely and withing the limits of your car.

where do you mean? near lewes?

Mostly around Chichester is the worst amount of roundabouts ever.

0.27 miles, 434 metres, can understand if you have a 1.3 not wanting to get up to 60, I do this sometimes if I'm judging upcoming roundabouts/traffic lights etc I know of i'll just cruise up to them slowly, bloody police wish they would go about catching some of the stuff I see every day.

This happens to me every night. The last stretch of my drive home is a dual carriageway and it's my last opportunity to floor it yet nine times out of ten I get some idiot on the outside lane doing 35mph.

I know where you mean, those DC's are annoying!

OP - when the car was behind you, unless you were close to the end of the DC you should have pulled over to let the car pass.
However, i'm guessing that in all reality the copper was just bored.

ah yeh i know, went there about a month ago. About 6 roundabouts in a row, takes forever when theres traffic

Ye I loved going through there when I got my new car as it was quite late at night, shame I dont get to do that route more often.

You lot on this forum make me laugh. You're probably the same people that sit up my ass on the straight bits then won't follow me round the bends at the same speed because you're too scared.

I got stopped by a traffic cop yesterday for driving too slow, ok that may sound funny but on the road in question i believe the speed i was travelling was more than adequate. The road in question is a duel carriage way around 300mtrs long and has a roundabout at both ends. It has a national speed limit sign on it. I was travelling at 40mph when i got stopped and told i was going too slow and i should be driving at the speed limit allowed. Ok i thought perhaps i was going too slow i'll drive faster tomorrow. Tomorrow comes and i did drive faster (now i dont have the fastest car in the world - 1.3 hyundai accent) and i kind of floored it as i came off the first roundabout and i hit a staggering speed of 55mph (as did about half a dozen of my work collegues) before i had to brake to go around the second roundabout............now to me it seems safer and more reasonable to accelerate to 40mph and drive at a steady speed than to drive as fast as i can before i have to brake for the roundabout. I wont be changing my driving habit on that road as i dont see the point as i was only going faster than 40mph for something stupid like 10sec. I honestly think the policeman had nothing better to do. Dont get me wrong he was polite about it but really what was the point other than i was holding him up in his traffic car which is probably quite capable of reaching 60mph on that road for all of 10secs.

This is why machine guns should be fitted to all cars 007 style ;)
But then again i live in the part of the country to quote Jeremy Clarkson GODS WAITING ROOM :D

***.

Just last night I was taking a nice relaxed drive at about 45 in a 60. Mr impatient behind in his Golf TDi overtakes. Fine by me, but he then proceeds to hit the brakes to enter every tiny bend in the road, ones that can be taken at 120 without sweat, he must have only been doing 60. Manly one minute with the overtake, then all of a sudden turns into a scaredy cat because a little corner, whats that about?

I love roads that turn into NSLs from 30s or 40s, for however long... Into 2nd.. Foot down... Into 3rd... Foot down :D

I love 40mph drivers.
On my route home the road I drive has limits that come in the following sequence:

30 - 40 - NSL - 30 - 20 - 30 - 40

Many many times on my way home I overtake someone who is doing 40mph in the NSL zone, only to be overtaken by the same car when I slow to 30mph for the 30 zone. I then watch them blissfully drive at 40mph through the 20mph zone too.

Not the ones round my way you can't.

Surrey CC have taken to planting shrubs all the way up to them so you can't see what's approaching from the right.

Of course if you've got a 4x4 you can see over the top......

Its nice to see that someone is stopped for driving too slow on a DC, but it does sound rather harsh if its only for 0.3 miles.
perhaps that policeman should sit on the motorways all day stopping those doing 50mph in the outside lane.
