Wow, What ever happened to simple "hey, I feel like going abroad." lol

Wow that looks like a a fairly hefty itinerary. Good luck with it. So all in all it look like its cost you 8k ~ including spending money correct ??

yep, about that. Most of the costs are the trips, but there no point in me arriving in LA and just staying there for 2 weeks really. (because ive heard its a bit crap and also expensive) Plus im sure i'll meet a lot more people on these trips

Phew I thought I was been brave doing the travelling Oz thing. I'm hopefully taking 5 k with for 12 months with work as well. Praying that , that is going to be enough :o

Anyone done the whole backpackingOz thing for 12 months

Sorry for slight thread hi jack :)

I get really cheap flights ie OZ for about £100 so I really should do some travelling, hopefully during uni I will meet up with some people to go with. I would really love to go to central asia/siberia, scenery seems great there and it is just so remote from everywhere :)

Though I did go to some youth thing in Ghana, the accom was awful, no running water and no proper beds, that has put me off youth hostels a bit!

Went for 7 months or so, spent £8K. Had the best time of my life.

Full details posted on the interweb here: www.richbeaumont.com (which was probably only read by my mum). Was reading it back the only other day and wish I was off again.

Great photos! Makes me think I'm back there again. I lost loads of photos when my old film camera died and chewed up half of australia :(

that is a lot of planning...

for me the best way was to back my bags and go without really knowing where i was going, which in itself was half the adventure and just going where the wind takes you

If you manage to stick to that I'll be very impressed. I only had flights booked in and out of countries, and even then I ended up changing loads of them. You'll get to some places and realise you want to spend longer there than originally planned, or people you meet will tell you about places they've been and you'll end up going off exploring. It's travelling - not a school trip - give yourself some leeway.

totally agree.. and that is exaclty what happens, you meet people that you would like to stay with and youll have to say, sorry guys i have to leave..

doesnt really make sense to be that strict

Thailand is totally not planned. I have 3 months to get from bangkok to singapore airport. I just put those places down as a very rough plan. I could stay neally 3 months in bangkok if i wanted then fly to singapore

Well definitely don't do that! Get the hell out BKK as quick as possible. :)

Go To LAOS!!!! you can catch a bus from Thailand to Laos nice and easy, and its well worth it! That and the islands in the south of thailand or the if you want mountains head north.

India if you want cheap and amazing memories. Plenty of culture, the people generally speak engligh (some better than others). And loads of extra entertainment, EVERYWHERE

i have been looking to travel for sometime but is it not better to have flights pre booked than just turning up at an airport and saying take me to wherever?

it depends on what you want and your budget

there are around the world tickets that allow you to make 5 flights within one year for a fixed price. so there is no fixed time you have to use them and can move on when your ready.

then use boats/trains/buses and local flights to move around within each continent ..

edit: just looked this up for £1k as an example

London » Dubai » Singapore (make your own way) Bangkok » Sydney » Auckland (make your own way to) Christchurch » Melbourne » Dubai » London

I'm off for a 2 month tour of China, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand in under 2 weeks. First time i've ever been away for so long...can't wait!
It's a guided tour so we'll be visiting the best sights each country has to offer, should be awesome.

I went to Canada for about 3 months over the summer a couple of years back, I'd have loved to stay longer but I had to get back to finish uni. I worked for most of the time that I was there but did manage a few trips, one right across the country to visit a mate and I had an absolutely awesome time. I think I just about broke even on the trip, possibly about £200 down which was mainly due to flying cross country.

I'm still planning to go back in the future but I need to get myself a decent amount of cash and probably some kind of marketable job before I could move longer term.
