i want the S1 but it says ''8800GT (Requires VRM Heatsinks)''

what are the VRM heatsinks ?

do i need to buy a fan for it ? if so which one.

And do i need to get some thermal compound at all ?

thanks

Basically you need a few ramsinks to stick on the VRMs.

You don't need a fan but I would recommend one, just in case we get a summer ;) I use a Yate Loon 120mm running at about 600rpm on mine and it has never gone over 50c.

Nope, comes with MX2 pre applied, it's one of the best available.

i just installed the s1 and i put the stock 8 heatsinks on but i have a couple of bits left over which i dont have a clue where they go, it dosnt even look like they fit anywhere.

i just stuck the card in with it installed and the 8 heatsinks on it, but within 4 minutes my screen froze.

That flat metal piece is for ATI 1900 Pro cards.

thanks thats 1 piece out of the way, and allso theres a long heatsink which you screw in, ?

and then its the crash which has got me worried, it hasnt crashed this time yet though :), but my screen froze the first time, and went a bit pixelated.

it crashed again last time i started my comp up, what happens is the whole screen freezes then sowly bits of the screen turn pinky/purple color.

if it happens again im gonna have to change back to stock again.

Well it's certainly over-heating by the sounds of it. I would suggest you remove the heatsink and reseat it, reapplying thermal compoud and checking that the surface of the heatsink and the GPU are flat also.

ive had no problems yet this time round, i think the last 2 times its been because a couple of the heatsinks have been falling off, i don't know why but they have not been sticking.

this time they have not fell off and it hasn't froze.
