As title pretty much

Just wondering if you can carry the audio with the same cable to be played back on the built in speakers of my LCD TV or do you need a cable which splits at the PC end into left and right audio.

Headphone socket.

You need a cable with LR connectors on one end and a regular headphone jack on the other.

is that the best way for best quality or is better to get one of those USB stick sound cards which have connections for LR audio going into the TV?

Be about the same, neither will be very good for sound if you're pumping it out of a tv's speakers though.

hdmi is pin-compatible with dvi. a dvi socket actually CAN carry audio, its just that the dvi standard was never intended to. ati include dvi>hdmi adaptors for their graphics cards which now (on the latest cards) support full 7.1 lossless audio as well as 1080p video, all from the dvi socket on the card. so yes, it actually can be done. but the card needs to support it. im assuming they do this by using the dvi socket's analogue video output pins for audio instead (dvi has separate outputs for analogue and digital video)

thanks for the replies

do you know if nvidia cards are supporting this or any of their future cards will do, any release date?

thanks in advance

also can i use a dvi + digital audio to hdmi conversion box, i found a company in america called SIIG they have a box the cheapest i found is for $130. most of these boxes sell for $250-$300 from other companies. Do these work? The thing i don't like about them is the fact that they need there own external power supply, do you know if there are any that take direct power from the PC?

the SIIG one from a website 'Combines digital video (DVI) and audio (digital or analog) into HDMI'

thanks in advance

Hi i have sli using msi n9600 gt nvidia cards and they do support audio through dvi connectors there is a spdif connector on the video cards which can be connected to motherboard or rear panel spdif output to the video card then sound is transfered through dvi/hdmi cable to monitor/hdtv.
