2008 - Nurburgring

See post 16 for further excuses and substitute as necessary ;)

I know...but I'm a lowly student with little monies to feed myself at the moment...come about 3 months time and I'll have enough to at least be a passenger...although should also have a car...so should be able to afford it...just at this moment in time, I can't. :)

I'd be happy to take anything round really, just for the experience. :)

When I just went it was £15 each for 4 of us return on a ferry from dover to calais, our hotel in koln was £23 each a night for a triple room including breakfast, no idea how cheap a nearby campsite might be, can't be that much though. After that you've got petrol, split 4 ways and assuming you don't drive too fast 3-4 tanks should do you.
As for waiting for a better car, I took a 20 year old scirocco with an engine that only had 90hp when it was made, and it was still awesome, yeah I had some cars come flying past making me look like I was going backwards, keep an eye peeled and out of their way and it's fine.

Not a better car, a car. ;)

If I still had the 205 I would be tempted to find some people that wanted to go, but I have it no more (dinged it and then repaired it, once repaired left it at home, currently at uni). I gave it to my brother as his first car (he's 25) :p :D.

I can technically afford to go, like I can technically afford a lot of things, but I'm trying to build up my money so I can actually buy a car worth owning (generally, not for the 'ring). :)

Wow, long running thread!

Well now, it looks like I'm planning on doing this again, sometime around the end of June. I've yet to start proper looking into it, so I don't even know if it's 'open' at that time or what, but this is my current plan. Tagging the 'ring onto the end of a franco-italian road trip taken over a couple weeks and incorporating a few cities and the stelvio pass.

More details to follow, at some point.

Ok so I've been now, got two laps in (loaded down with my brother and his bike gear and some of my own luggage, i might add) and managed 10:20 on the second one, over a minutes improvement on lap one. I know it's not awesome but I also had the top down and had to make sure my tyres could get me home!

Anyway, there were plenty of people taking photos whilst I was going round, is there a common place where people tend to post 'ring photos? Want to see if I can find any of me, and perhaps post the ones I got earlier of some nice 'ring weaponry properly going for it (GT3RSs, M3CSLs, some proper trackday specials too)

Thats pretty good going. I was there last week and managed a 11:30ish in a Honda Prelude loaded with a passenger and 1 weeks worth of camping gear. I reckon if I'd known the track better and where the corners pop up next I could scrap into the mid 10 mins. But jesus did I end up with brake fading after 3 laps. End result of 3 laps of the ring was warped discs, blowing back-box (already showing signs of wear before) 2 blown front speakers after cranking up the music too high for my last lap (wanted to see if I drove faster with music = no! ) and one kerbed alloy wheel. Gonna cost me few hundred before its back to mint and then Im off the ring in September :)

Did 4 laps on the 23rd on June, was awesome! Was part of a road trip of France>Brussels>Nurburg>Amsterdam.

Had a webcam mounted behind the rear view mirror and a mic in the engine bay but the video footage is to washed out due to the camera being left in indoor mode :( . Definately have to go back and do it again. Was quite daunting on the 1st lap out and I got more confident as the laps went by. Found myself lifting off for crests as I didn't know what was beyond them, the banked turns were really fun though and just managing to string together a few decent turns on the last lap made me want to go back and do it all again. Tyres so hot they were sticky and wheels/brakes that you could literally see the heat coming off of was enough to make me not go back out due to it being only the beginning of the road trip and not wanting to break the car.

Ouch dude, that's exactly why I stopped after 2 laps, my engine was already running way hotter than usual and sounding like a bag of boulders. What were you there in? And whenabouts in September? I've calculated my costs for a long weekend at about £600 which is entirely reasonable, so I'm looking to go back soon. Given the now skittish nature of my rear end though, I'll be needing new tyres before long, so depending how much they run to I may be up for another trip very soon.

Was driving a '99 5th Gen Honda Prelude Motegi 2.2,

This is my pride and joy on the Nurburgring Campsite

Hoping to get back there mid to late September really, really hoping for a totally dry track this time.

Would be good if a few people on here were up for going across, has anyone found anything to do yet during the day time before the track opens? It seems to be the only drawback with the 'ring, very little to do in the area apart from walking the track and snapping photos of the test cars.

Whilst I was there the 'ring record was broken by this monster I gather?!?

No years experience is needed. So long as you can get your car to the track then your free to go driving... well, I say free but it'll set you back 70 Euros for 4 laps.

cheers for the info....
do you need special insurance if your car insurance doesn't include track day/track racing/driving

I can't think of any UK insurance company that includes unrestricted toll road.

If you are that worried don't go there. Best advice I can give you.
