Banknotes in left in pockets come out safely after washing? Surely you could just dump the cash in the washing machine and wash it safely in one go ?

I dunno if they've ever had enough money to create money that is safe from a cycle in the washing machine. I'm sure I saw a show that tested many currencies in the wash, and not many of them survived at all.

The best bet would be to iron the notes individualy and try to steam them clean, I'd have thought. It might take a really long time though ...

just a note to anyone wanting to buy a crate of these notes (pun not intended), they're not banknotes, they're "Bearer's Cheques", which expire after a couple of weeks, they're printed on normal paper (not flax-paper like UK notes), only printed on one side and look plain dull.

shame, all the euro's of the past few years and the guilders before that easily survived washing.
