the day our empire started falling appart....GRRRRRRRR![]()
Actually our Empire hadn't got anywhere near its peak by that time. The loss of the American colonies was a kick up the backside and forced us to look to India (which we didn't have total dominion over at that time) Asia (Singapore, Malaya) and later on Africa to expand. The height of the British Empire was more like the late 1800's to very early 1900's.
The only reason we lost that particular struggle with the colonies was that we were also fighting the French, Dutch and Spanish in Europe. They used their Navies to blockade the American ports, thus making it difficult for us to re-enforce and re-supply.
The irony is, George Washington fought alongside the British Army to keep the French at bay during the French and Indian War (1754 - 1763). So, if it wasn't for us, you yanks would be speaking French

Of course your sounding american, so I can only assume you have been taught 'history' by the US media, you know the same people that were trying to make a film about the 'us airforce' battles in WW2, when infact it was 99% RAF spitfire squadrans and litterally 3 people from the USA (ill find out the name of the battles)
